FUJIFILM Issues ‘OptCal’ Lens Selector App For Mobile Devices

The latest version of the OptCal adds support for a variety of languages

FUJIFILM North America Corp.’s Optical Devices Division, which provides optical lenses for several video markets, released a new version of its OptCal Select-a-Lens calculator application making it available whenever it is needed.

The new OptCal v4.1 app is available for use on iPhones and Android devices, as well as iPad mobile tablets, and can be obtained from the Apple App Store and Android Market for free, FUJIFILM says.

In addition, the latest version of the OptCal adds support for a variety of languages, including German, French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese. “We’ve made OptCal v4.1available in several major languages to ensure that videographers and photographers worldwide can use this utility to full advantage,” said Thom Calabro, FUJIFILM’s director of marketing and product development.

Developed in 2005, OptCal is a tool that takes the guesswork out of lens selection, according to FUJIFILM. The app helps photographers calculate various lens formulas—such as field of view, angle of view, and depth of field—and it can compare those values when switching between lens formats and camera image sizes, the company says.

OptCal enables the user to calculate formulas for 2/3-inch, 1/2-inch, 1/3-inch, PL mount and closed circuit television (CCTV) c-mount lenses for broadcast, digital cinematography, and security applications.

Videographers worldwide can now use OptCal in their native languages to determine how different lenses and focal lengths will impact shooting variables, and they can access it using mobile devices making it available whenever and wherever they may need it, including on location, Calabro said.
