There are a lot of scams out there. But if more people viewed some of the videos produced by the Federal Trade Commission, there would be a lot fewer.
The FTC has been fighting back against the onslaught of scams and slippery deals we’re offered every day, producing its own set of videos on several topics.
Nat Wood Nat Wood, an architect of the FTC’s approach, is delivering a keynote address at Government Video Expo on Dec. 2.
Wood is Assistant Director for Consumer and Business Education in the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection. He helped create Admongo.gov, which makes innovative use of video in an interactive game where tweens can play and learn about the advertising all around them.
He has led teams that created award-winning education campaigns about online safety, identity theft, and the National Do Not Call Registry.
One such video: A snappy musical retort to those ubiquitous guys pitching the free credit report. Anyone can write a catchy jingle, but only AnnualCreditReport.com provides you with a truly free credit report, the FTC notes.

Wood is also a former Assistant Director of the National Park Service. He’s a graduate of Cornell University, and has an MBA from George Washington University.
