Extron Introduced Its ‘3G-AE 100’ Audio Extractor

The unit automatically detects incoming 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI data

Extron Electronics, a manufacturer of professional audiovisual products, introduced its 3G-AE 100, an audio extractor for 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SDI digital-video signals.
The 3G-AE 100 automatically detects incoming 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI data rates, de-embeds up to eight channels of digital audio, and converts it to line level, analog audio, Extron said. The 3G-AE 100 features an equalized 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI input and eight-analog audio outputs that are switch selectable to support audio-groups 1 through 4, the company said.
In addition, a buffered and re-clocked 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI loop-through allows two 3G-AE 100 units to be cascaded to support up to 16 channels of embedded audio, Extron said.
“SDI signals are steadily gaining popularity as a way to transmit high-definition video signals in commercial AV systems, but converting embedded digital audio into a form that can be used in AV systems has been a challenge,” says Casey Hall, Extron’s vice president of sales and marketing. The 3G-AE 100 “provides a simple, convenient solution for de-embedding SDI audio for playback through a house audio system or similar needs,” he said.
