Drones Deliver Storm Response

The recovery process after Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma received a boost from the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones, according to a recent post from Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

FREDERICK, MD.—The recovery process after Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma received a boost from the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones, according to a recent post from Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The FAA issued emergency authorization to a reported 137 applicants to fly drones to be used in search and rescue, infrastructure assessment and for support of live television. FAA administrator Michael Huerta went as far as to say that the use of drones during the response effort will be “looked back upon as a landmark in the evolution of drone usage in this country.”
