Christie Launches New Dual Input Projection Systems

Christie Matrix StIM WQ, Matrix SIM WQ are ruggedized, hi-res solutions

Simulation projection display and visualization solutions company Christie launches its new Matrix StIM WQ and Christie Matrix SIM WQ, fully integrated solid-state, WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution projection systems.
Built upon the dual-input architecture first developed in the Christie Matrix StIM light emitting diode-illuminated simulation projector, Christie says both new projectors provide the highest levels of light output available in an LED-based WQXGA projection system for training and simulation applications.
The StIM WQ and SIM WQ feature 800 American National Standards Institution lumens, 4.1 megapixels of resolution, fully ruggedized chassis, ArrayLOC and the adjustable Christie AccuFrame smear-reduction technology. Unlike alternative approaches to “smear reduction,” AccuFrame is integrated into the project systems and is adjustable in one-percent increments, allowing system designers and customers to maximize dynamic image quality.
“Solid state projection technology is rapidly evolving, driven by customers’ increasing expectations for higher resolution and higher brightness from LED-based projectors,” said Zoran Veselic, Christie’s vice president of visual environments.
The dual input architecture of the Matrix StIM WQ makes it the only WQXGA simulation projection system currently available that displays separate channels for visible light and infrared spectrum for stimulated night vision goggles training through Christie InfraScene.
With separate red green blue and IR channel management, the Matrix StIM WQ offers greater system design flexibility, for specific night training requirements, according to Christie. The Matrix StIM WQ’s dual input architecture enables the creation of composites of the two 60Hz RGB inputs to deliver 120Hz RGB operation.
When used with AccuFrame, there are also no image artifacts or perceived loss of brightness while maintaining compatibility with current image generator technology and without the need to make changes to the visual database, the company says.
Designed for 24/7 use, and with a platform rated at 50,000 hours mean time between failures, the Christie Matrix StIM WQ’s design for motion platform use is durable and also has no consumables.
The Christie Matrix SIM WQ is Federal Aviation Administration Level D compliant as a full flight simulator projection system with its higher resolution and color matching technology, the company says. Solid state, LED-based illumination enables reliable, 24/7 operation and lower power consumption. Its long-life platform does not fade over time due to its lamp-less illumination systems, the firm says.
The Matrix StIM WQ and Matrix SIM WQ are compatible with all simulation motion environments, can be mounted in either landscape or portrait mode and, with Christie AutoCal, they provide real-time continuous calibration to ensure consistent luminance and color across the entire projection array, and minimum time for system set-up and re-calibration, Veselic said.
