Charlotte Area Police Deploy ‘V-Net’ to Enhance Aerial Surveillance

V-Net enables the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to expand the capabilities of the air unit

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department of Charlotte, N.C. has deployed “V-Net” by Vislink—a producer of secure communications solutions for the broadcast and the surveillance markets—to provide real-time aerial video during the Democratic National Convention.

V-Net is Vislink’s customizable solution designed to collect video from airborne and ground-based sensors over disparate networks and distribute it directly to response personnel in real time, the company says. The system provides live video intelligence from orbiting helicopters direct to tactical command posts and the emergency operations center and it is to enhance the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD’s Airborne Video Downlink System that is used for public safety, emergency response, surveillance and special event support.

In addition, the V-Net system will enable the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD to expand its response area and capabilities of the police department’s air unit, says Vislink. The V-Net surveillance technology provides first responders with mission critical imagery to support multi-agency coordinated response and crisis management activities, the company says. By integrating microwave, cellular and WiFi technologies, V-Net is a state-of-the-art solution that enables interoperability between public safety agencies, the firm says.
