Beijing Airport Increases Passenger Surveillance

Move spurred by the recent bomb attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

Because of the bomb attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport that killed 35 and injured 150, Chinese police have tightened security at Beijing International Airport including keeping a close eye on surveillance cameras and monitoring the flow of passengers around the clock, according to published reports.

More police dogs have been deployed at key areas at the airport, including luggage claim points, check-in counters and departure and arrival halls, and more plain-clothes police are on patrol, says Hu Jinhui, a senior official with the Beijing International Airport Police Bureau.

Police at the airport were already on high alert amid the annual rush of the travelers ahead of the Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 3 this year.
