American Traffic Solutions, the second largest provider of red-light and speed cameras in North America, has bought Nestor Traffic Systems, the fourth largest, in bankruptcy auction.
The price was about $7.1 million. Nestor, based in Providence, R.I., had lost about $30 million in its 12-year run.
ATS said it has cameras in more than 170 communities in 16 states and Washington, D.C., with 1,688 red-light and speed cameras under contract, including 1,147 already in operation. The addition of the Nestor customers would boost ATS to nearly 200 communities in 21 states and a second Canadian province, with 2,173 cameras under contract, including 1,492 already in operation in North America.
ATS said the most significant expansion would be in California, where Nestor’s contracts include Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Bernardino, Pasadena and eight other California cities.
