American Forces Network Deploys DigitalGlue’s MPEG-4 HD Set-Top Box

DigitalGlue and Inview Technology are doing their part in supporting the U.S. military, as it has been announced that DigitalGlue’s MPEG-4 HD set-top boxes will be utilized by the American Forces Network.

NORTHWICH, ENGLAND & LAGUNA NIGUEL, CALIF.—DigitalGlue and Inview Technology are doing their part in supporting the U.S. military, as it has been announced that DigitalGlue’s MPEG-4 HD set-top boxes will be utilized by the American Forces Network.

DigitalGlue’s new set-top boxes classify as DVB-S2 set-top boxes, meaning that they feature Inview’s middleware to provide a user interface and twin tuner PVR, which enables viewers to record multiple TV shows and enhanced EPG information. Planned features include video advertising, messaging and push VOD.

The launch coincides with a planned switchover of the military’s global broadcast infrastructure from SD to HD, which will improve the picture and sound quality of its eight HD channels.

AFN has gone live with its new set-top boxes in two of its four regions, according to Ray Rodriguez, director, system integration, at DigitalGlue. The remaining two regions are expected to be launched in the next six weeks.
