Marshall Grupp of Sound Lounge Music & Sound Design developed the fantastic robotic noises and factory sounds that accompany SLMSD Harry Frost’s moody composition which mirrors movements and builds anticipation. Rounding out Sound Lounge’s involvement is Engineer Glen Landrum who mixes the mad experience in this playful, yet sophisticated CG-animated spot for Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi.
Engrossed robots working the assembly line fasten tires to cars at a frenetic pace. When a wheel doesn’t pop up in time for the ‘bot to attach it, a high stakes race ensues. The robot dribbles the tire like a basketball, passing it down the ‘court’ to an open co-worker who bobs and weaves after the empty wheel well. Finally, the shot is open and the robot rises up and makes a slow motion dunk, safely attaching the important necessity.
From Marshall Grupp of Sound Lounge Music & Sound Design:
This was an extremely challenging and involved project from the sound design perspective in that we had to humanize the robots, creating some kind of reality, without being overly realistic. I was fortunate to be involved early on in the process from the initial pencil sketches and CG pre-vis. The producer opted to change the sounds as the graphics became more real, and little movements appeared. It was important to get the sounds for each movement, which ended up being over 90 tracks. Also very important was the aid of award-winning foley artists John Roesch and Alyson Dee Moore (Transformers, I Am Legend, The Matrix, Fight Club).
