– IGI has announced a new 4K large screen display rental program featuring its self-contained IGI PowerWindow | 4K Portable, the Sony SXRD® 4K projector, and a variety of related large screen, 4K projection equipment. The announcement coincides with the company’s participation in the first REDucation training event in Los Angeles, California this week where filmmakers from around the world are gathering for in-depth training on the RED 4K camera and 4K workflow techniques.
The unique rental program is designed to help promote the use of large screen, 4K displays in feature film production, post production, broadcast, and itinerant consumer research applications. It features a registration process whereby authorized companies or industry professionals will be eligible for a finder’s fee for successfully referring the rental of an IGI PowerWindow | 4K Portable or a Sony SXRD 4K projector.
IGI Founder and President, Pat Hernandez, explains the philosophy behind the rental program.
“Our thinking originated with the film industry where the rental of capital-intensive equipment for movie production is the norm, “says Hernandez. “In light of the current economy and with the all-digital 4K workflow still in its early stages, we needed to create a program that would help seed the demand for our 4K display products. We did this by providing an incentive for someone in the film industry, for example, to realize a finder’s fee for successfully recommending our products to their customers or contacts.
Hernandez expects that many independent contractors in the film industry who may have customers interested in utilizing large screen, 4K displays will find the program attractive. Rental of IGI’s 4K displays can be used for viewing of dailies, high resolution back plate filming, color grading, screening, or any number of production and post production applications.
“We’ve run into numerous, talented independent contractors in the film industry who have told us they would love to use our 4K displays on certain projects, says Hernandez. “Not only can they now do so, but they can also benefit financially for developing the opportunity.
The IGI PowerWindow | 4K Portable is a large screen, native 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels) display that allows 4K content to be viewed in its full resolution. Incorporating Sony SXRD 4K projector technology, the self-contained, rear projection system features a screen size of 9’- 9 wide by 5’– 2 tall. The system’s footprint is 12’ – 4 wide and 8’– 7 deep. The product’s unique form factor makes it ideal for a variety of production and post production uses as the film industry progresses towards an all-digital, 4K production workflow.
IGI rents Sony SXRD 4K projection systems in three different configurations: IGI PowerWindows, free standing screens and a fully integrated 4K screening room at its Michigan headquarters all optimized for 4K viewing.
