Editor James Haygood Back in the Spot-Light at Union

SANTA MONICA, CA, March 14, 2008 – “Jim is a hero to many of our editors,” said

Partner/Executive Producer Michael Raimondi of the latest addition to his roster, acclaimed editor James Haygood, who comes to the company after completing his latest feature project, Where the Wild Things Are, on which he shared editorial duties with colleague Eric Zumbrunnen.

Haygood, whose distinguished resume includes collaborations with pre-eminent spot and feature directors such as David Fincher and Spike Jonze, kicks off his tenure at Union with the PlayStation MLB launch via Deutsch/LA, OnStar out of Campbell Ewald, Detroit, and a Range Rover spot via Y&R, directed by Gerard de Thame.

“I approach editorial with the goal of understanding the director’s vision,” said Haygood, revered by many in the ad biz for his work with Fincher, most notably as editor of Fight Club, Adidas “Legs”, and Madonna’s “Vogue” clip. “Whether it’s films, spots, or music videos, visuals, dialogue, or story, there is always a cut that feels right for the job, that realizes the vision.” Haygood added that he has always taken seriously the agency’s commitment to advertising, to the marriage of art and commerce, an attribute that has contributed to his success on the spot side.

Of his decision to join Union, Haygood said, “My m.o. is to find people I like to work with, and build on that. Historically, building these relationships has led to producing good work, and that’s the instinct I had with Michael and Union.”

Haygood, formerly represented by Spot Welders, described his career as “a single journey of interconnected disciplines” in which he has consistently vaulted between movies and spots. While at work on his latest feature project, he conducted ongoing conversations with Raimondi about returning to spots and joining the Union family.

“People are at Union for two reasons,” Raimondi stated. “Their talent and the type of person they are. Anyone would be thrilled to have Jim, and I think we share a mutual understanding of one another’s goals and personality.”

Haygood’s additional credits include notable spot projects for Jaguar and Miller Lite, as well as the films The Astronaut Farmer and The Game. He rounds out a Union roster comprised of editors Einar, Jay Friedkin, Nicholas Wayman-Harris, Nick Lofting, Nico Alba, and Scott Tremblay.
