CHOMET PRODUCTIONS DEBUTS “COLLEGE LIFE, A REALITY SERIES FOR MTV

Chomet Productions, established, by the New York-based editorial and post-production house, Chomet Inc., to develop and produce independent productions, has debuted their first reality TV concept, “College Life, on MTV. The half-hour reality show, which airs Mondays at 10:30 PM on MTV, premiered on April 8th, 2009.

“College Life, the first broadcast series developed by Chomet Productions, was conceived by David Wexler of the production company Cinema 59 (New York, NY) working together with Michael Chomet, President of Chomet, Inc. and Rich Campbell, Executive Producer at Chomet Productions.

Pitched to MTV in the spring of ’08 by the team, MTV picked up the show concept, jointly developed the pilot, and subsequently picked-up the series, which produced the show as part of the networks spring programming line-up. All three creators remain actively involved in the series. All online finishing, color correction and sound mixing were performed at Chomet, Inc.

The “College Lifeâ€? concept removes the producers, directors and camera operators from the equation to give viewers a real look at college life — a completely self-shot, groundbreaking series following students as they embark on their freshman year of school in a way never before seen on television.

Shot at the University of Wisconsin in Madison by the students themselves, “College Life gives viewers a raw, unpolished and intimate look at college students telling their own honest stories in their own way. From hookups to breakups, from the pressure to make good grades to experiencing homesickness, “College Life delivers the next level of reality access.

“What amazed me was that for the past ten years the programming which has dominated the market place (reality television) has become anything but REAL. It was my intention to bring ‘real reality’ and legitimacy back to the genre. When all is said and done, ‘College Life’ remains in its own niche, somewhere between documentary filmmaking and episodic television. It’s what reality television always should have been,â€? explained David Wexler, the originator of the series concept.

Michael Chomet added, “For Chomet Productions, it was really a terrific collaborative effort between David, Rich and me, and the great people at MTV as well. We came to MTV with the concept and together we made it a reality. Literally! It’s amazing that Chomet Productions was able to hit a homerun like this our first time at bat. The ‘College Life’ concept is unique and we are looking forward to developing more concepts in this vein.

Representing Chomet Productions were Producer David Wexler (Cinema 59), Executive Producer/Editor Michael Chomet (Chomet Inc.) and Executive Producer/Lead Editor Richard E. Campbell (Chomet Productions).

MTV was represented by Executive Producers Amy Emmerich and Mike Powers and SVPs, Development & Series Liz Gateley and Brent Haynes.

The online edit and color correction were completed at Chomet, Inc. by Michael Chomet and Peter Zielyk, and the final audio mix was handled by Allan Gus of Matlin Recording which is housed at Chomet, Inc.
