Hollywood, California (December 21, 2009) â€” Digital creative agency 1K|Studios has used Appleâ€™s new TuneKit Application Programming Interface (API) and related developer tools to program the Adam Lambert – For Your Entertainment iTunes LP (from RCA/Jive Label Group, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment) and Four Christmases iTunes Extras , both recently released for sale on the iTunes Store.
iTunes LP and iTunes Extras represent a major step forward in the market for downloadable media. The new formats enable content developers to deliver packages of enhanced â€œbonusâ€? content along with movies and albums. For music, this content might include performance videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, and photos; and for movies – documentaries, deleted scenes, interviews, games and more. Each iTunes LP or Extras package also includes its own navigational interface and can include links to the web or additional content in the iTunes Store.
Appleâ€™s API, called TuneKit, was released along with supporting documentation on November 25. TuneKit enables developers to create iTunes LP and Extras content using flexible, easily accessible web programming techniques.
1K|Studios provided design, animation, video encoding and programming support major movie studios and record companies during production of the first fifty launch titles for the new format. These titles include iTunes LPs for Dave Matthews Bandâ€™s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, Jay-Zâ€™s The Blueprint 3, Tom Pettyâ€™s Live Anthology; and iTunes Extras packages for Batman Begins, Twilight, The Wizard of Oz, and Star Trek. 1K|Studios also helped to create Level 26, a digital novel from CSI creator Anthony Zuiker and Tyrese Gibsonâ€™s Mayhem #1, a digital comic book attached to a downloadable song.
