Director Lauren Greenfield talks about the twists of fate that led her to make The Queen of Versailles, a documentary that ostensibly started out being about one wealthy family building the largest house in America and eventually turned into a microcosm of the financial crisis.
She says, "I always told the crew, 'Shoot like it’s your last time,' because it was a risky thing, making a film about one family. And in a way, it had to be an independent film because you have to earn your access each time. You could never know what the future holds."
