Artist James Turrell on Transforming a Volcano Into an Observatory

Artist James Turrell's work-in-progress is monumental, to say the least: for over 25 years, he has been working on transforming the extinct volcano Roden Crater into a naked-eye observatory. Explains LACMA Director of Artist Initiatives Erin Wright (the producer of a short film on Turrell's project), "Roden Crater is not yet a finished project: it has several completed spaces, but Turrell’s vision is that it should eventually have twenty different spaces in which to view events in the sky. The hope is that enough funds can be raised to complete the lion’s share of project in the near future." Read more and watch Wright's film here on LACMA's blog.

Watch One of Bill Viola's New Works from His Latest Museum Exhibit

Watch an excerpt from artist Bill Viola's "Inner Passage," which is one of nine new works featured in his exhibit at Blain|Southern gallery in London. Says Viola about his work, "In this landscape, the physical body confronts extremes of endurance in the form of scorching heat, numbing cold, blinding light, impenetrable darkness, infinite distance and forced confinement. It is also where the metaphysical extremes of loneliness, isolation, stress, anxiety and fear meet the forces of overwhelming beauty, mystery, wonder and ecstasy. Between these two states lies the present moment, with all its uncertainty and promise.” Watch below and read more here on NOWNESS.

OK Go Helps NPR Move Offices in Quirky Music Video

NPR recently moved offices and Bob Boilen of the Tiny Desk Concerts music series decided not to waste the opportunity to create a unique music video. Writes Boilen on NPR's blog, "Earlier this year, we needed to figure out the best possible way to move my Tiny Desk from NPR's old headquarters to our new facility just north of the U.S. Capitol. We wanted to go out with a bang and arrive at our new space in style, so our thoughts naturally turned to a catchy pop band we love: OK Go, whose unforgettable videos have been viewed tens of millions of times on YouTube."
