Small Tree to Introduce GraniteSTOR Titanium “All-in-One”Shared Storage System for Real-Time Collaboration at NRB 2012

Mac networking and shared storage specialist, Small Tree, will introduce GraniteSTOR Titanium, the newest addition to its growing line of affordable Ethernet-based shared storage systems, at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville this February. Titanium is a high-performance, capacity-dense, dedicated video-editing shared storage appliance with advanced file sharing capabilities enabling simple, real-time collaboration.

An “all-in-one” system, Titanium offers extreme flexibility to support diverse requirements, making sure video editors with limited resources can focus on editing video, not on managing their workflow infrastructure. Small Tree designed and optimized its latest offering to meet the demanding needs of professional video editors requiring simultaneous access to media files.

Configurable up to 14 GbE ports or eight 10GbE ports and storage capacity from 16TB to 48TB, Titanium is built on a customized open source operating system that was designed to be easy-to-use and feature rich and reliable, while providing exceptionally robust performance. Storage can be made available to users within minutes of initial start up and the powerful and convenient Web-based GUI makes management of the system straightforward and simple. Additionally, by using a Web-based browser, Titanium can be managed from anywhere with an Internet connection, providing optimal convenience to post-production professionals facing tight deadlines.

Storage, file server and networking are all contained in the Titanium chassis, which means users can connect an editing workstation directly to the system with no other networking equipment required. If additional editing workstations are required, a Small Tree switch is easily integrated with the new system. As a result of its tremendous flexibility, Titanium is ideal for any post-production environment, whether it’s in the studio, at home, in a mobile production truck or on a remote shoot requiring on-site video editing.

Finally, Small Tree’s newest shared storage solution supports popular editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects, while enabling Windows, Linux, Unix and Macintosh clients to share media files. In addition to network file protocols – AFP, Samba(CIFS) and NFS – iSCSI is also supported. Utilizing iSCSI and Xsan (now included in OS X at no additional charge) makes possible full Final Cut X sharing. So post-production professionals can rest easy knowing that no matter what software or platform they are working from, Titanium will work seamlessly in their environment.

“GraniteSTOR Titanium is platform and software agnostic, so post-production facilities using Windows and Mac can rely on a single shared storage solution to meet their workflow needs,” said Corky Seeber, president of Small Tree. “This is a purpose-built system that will eliminate technological redundancies while improving workflow and cost efficiencies.”

For more information on GraniteSTOR Titanium, visit Small Tree at the upcoming NRB Convention – Small Tree’s booth will be located in the Technologies for Worship Pavilion – or at www.Small-Tree.com. Follow Small Tree on Twitter @smalltreecomm.

Cache-A Begins Shipments of Power-Cache High-Performance Archive Server

– Cache-A Customers Now Have LTO-5 Archiving Solution with 8TB RAID and 10GbE Technologies –-

Morgan Hill, Calif., December 8, 2011 — Cache-A Corporation is now shipping its new high-performance Power-Cache Archive Server, which includes Cache-A’s latest version 2.1 software release with a range of new features. Power-Cache combines Cache-A’s noted appliance functionality with a blindingly fast disk array and ultra-fast networking for more expandability and accelerated archive and retrieval transfers. Power-Cache features a separate SSD drive for its operating system to ensure peak archiving and restore performance and reliability at all times. It also offers greater flexibility for staging content, making duplicate tape copies and working with Cache-A Library and Expansion units.

“With the enormous growth in data that digital media professionals handle every day, our customers have been asking Cache-A to develop an archive appliance that can deliver even greater archiving speed and flexibility,” said Mark Ostlund, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Cache-A Corporation. “We are proud to say that day has arrived with the world debut of Power-Cache, the latest evolution in our acclaimed line of archive appliances.”

The compact one rack-unit Power-Cache Archive Server can control up to four LTO-5 drives with up to two concurrently at full speed. Library24 or Library48 options and a one rack-unit expansion chassis that can hold one or two LTO-5 tape drives can be connected in any combination of up to four tape drives.

To simplify the archiving of large projects, the Cache-A Library24 and Library 48 work with the Power-Cache or Pro-Cache to automate archival workflows and provide the ultimate in system flexibility. Cache-A’s Library24 option can accommodate up to two internal tape drives and up to four tape drives on the Library48 option when driven from the new Power-Cache model.

Power-Cache is launching with Cache-A’s latest version 2.1 software release, which contains many new capabilities for all models. At the top of the list for “most asked-for feature” is the ability to queue jobs from multiple users or events, enabling any Cache-A device to be more responsive in demanding user environments. Cache-A systems also now offer the ability to directly mount Apple file shares, improving performance and convenience in Mac environments. New status reporting shows users more information about file transfer progress, while new network configuration controls give users the ability to set up and view the status of each Ethernet port. Other features specific to Power-Cache include a new RAID manager, SSD OS capabilities, multiple tape drive support and reporting functionality.

Like the company’s flagship product, the award-winning Pro-Cache5, and the new quiet, desktop Prime-Cache5, Power-Cache includes LTFS capability. Available as a simple software upgrade from Cache-A, this new format enables users to interchange content across different operating systems, software applications and physical locations. This provides application independence, transportability and protection from obsolescence.

Harmonic’s Omneon Spectrum(TM) MediaCenter Adds SSD Storage Option

New Omneon Spectrum(TM) System Component With SSD Storage Increases Media Reliability and Availability in Multichannel Ingest and Playout Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. and TOKYO — Nov. 17, 2011 — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today introduced Omneon Spectrum(TM) MediaCenter SSD, adding solid-state drive (SSD) technology to the company’s midrange multichannel media server. Featuring integrated storage plus Spectrum MediaPort modularity and scalability, MediaCenter SSD is the first modular server system to offer a choice of SSD or hard-disk drive (HDD) storage. The system provides exceptional performance and reliability for broadcasters and remote playout facilities requiring from four to 12 channels in a single video server configuration.

“MediaCenter SSD extends the Spectrum product line to offer even higher levels of reliability and availability for the most demanding playout applications,” said Mark Cousins, product line manager for media servers at Harmonic Inc. “While maintaining the flexibility and robust design for which the Spectrum line is known, MediaCenter SSD gives media companies access to a larger-scale server system boasting the many benefits of SSD storage.”

The 2-RU MediaCenter SSD chassis offers up to 4 TB of usable storage in several SSD configurations, allowing broadcasters to choose the capacity most appropriate for their needs. The system supports up to 12 channels at 50 Mbps, with 600 Mbps total real-time bandwidth available. SSD storage reduces operational costs, as it requires less power and cooling, and it also operates more quietly than HDD-based systems.

Like its HDD counterpart, MediaCenter SSD is fully compatible with all other members of the Spectrum product line. It also ensures full media exchange and the same extensive support for third-party systems such as automation, media management, playout control, and editing systems. The system operates with all Spectrum-compatible software applications, APIs, and media formats, and it supports up to six externally connected Spectrum MediaPort I/O modules for real-time ingest and playout of video and audio content. Equipped with integrated storage, the system not only simplifies deployment by eliminating external fiber channel storage cabling, but also reduces space and power requirements by collapsing the rack space required for ingest and playout.

The Spectrum MediaCenter SSD will be introduced at the Inter BEE show in Tokyo, Nov. 16-18. Visit Hall 7, booth 7212 for a demonstration of the MediaCenter SSD and other Harmonic solutions. More information is available at www.harmonicinc.com.

New Handheld 3D BULLET RIG Makes Stereoscopic Filmmaking Easy, Affordable & Mobile !

3D Bullet Rig

Hollywood, CA – 3D Film Factory, the leader in professional, affordable 3D camera rigs, introduces the world’s lightest, most affordable, hand-held 3D rig – the 3D Bullet Rig. Ready to “Load & Shoot”, this versatile 3D system is literally unshakable for handheld, Steadicam, Easyrig, or tripod filming.

Priced at a fraction of other professional 3D rigs (under $5K), this compact beam-splitter rig is the perfect solution for location, reality, or action 3D filmmaking. It’s features actually surpass that of other more expensive rigs. For more information on the 3D Bullet Rig visit www(dot)3DFilmFactory(dot)com

“The 3D Bullet Rig is going to take 3D production to a whole new level. I love this rig. It’s incredibly light, rock steady and most of all – it’s really easy to shoot with from your shoulder, or tripod. This rig is a 3D filmmakers dream, very versatile“, said the company’s veteran stereographer Keith Driver. “Most 3D rigs are bulky, expensive and worst of all – tripod bound. They require a crew to operate. We’ve shot 3D projects in Africa, the Middle East, Hollywood soundstages, you name it we’ve done it in 3D. And we realized we needed a more mobile 3D rig. A 3D rig you could just pick up and shoot with. This is the 3D Bullet Rig.”

The 3D Bullet Rig makes handheld 3D filming effortless and smooth by transferring the weight to your waist and shoulder. Each 3D rig includes a spring-loaded suspension rod, comfortable weight displacement belt and adjustable, padded shoulder mount. The result is hours of mobile, handheld 3D filming capability. In addition, the rig features detachable rubber hand grips for easy manoeuvring and a standard tripod mounting plate (¼-20 and ?-16 holes).

Weighing approx. 13 lbs. (5.8 kgs.) the Bullet Rig accommodates the Red Epic, Canon DSLR 5D, 7D, XF105
XF305, XH-G1, Sony F3, EX3’s, HDCP1, X5U, Z1U, Panasonic AF100, HPX250 and many other professional HD cameras.

The rig also features custom camera mounts that easily lock and load cameras into place using a standard quick-release plate from Bogen/Manfrotto. The horizontal camera mount offers IO (inter-ocular) adjustability from 0” – 3.5” (0 – 89 mm) and simple convergence movement from 0°-3°. Both functions are easily controlled using smooth, accurate finger knobs, with calibration markings. The vertical camera mount adjusts for perfect stereoscopic picture alignment by elevating and performing full x-y-z rotation (yaw, roll, tilt).

The light-weight, mirror box housing is constructed using space-age foam core plastic that’s durable, corrosion-free and substantially cooler than a metal matte box. This ensures your beam-splitter glass with its expensive coatings will stay cool on hot days. The rig itself is hand-milled employing a nearly indestructible aluminium alloy frame.

Perfect for traveling light, the entire 3D Bullet Rig is ingenuously designed to set-up and break down in a matter of minutes, packing into a small, water-tight pelican case.

As a bonus, the horizontal rail easily detaches, along with the camera mounts, transforming into a side-by-side rig 3D for wide and landscape stereography.

Our opti-prime, 50/50 beam-splitter glass is optimized to meet the demands of 3D filmmaking. See specs. Within the matte box, a simple adjustment tool allows stereographers to fine tune the glass angle from between 43° to 47°.

The outcome is simply the world’s most affordable, professional handheld 3D rig.

It should be noted that using our simple Lanc system camera operators can now synch start/stop, focus, alignment, lens shift and many other vital functions thru both cameras or individually.

The 3D Film Factory offers a complete line of 3D beam-splitter rigs intended for HD camcorders, as well as larger ENG and broadcast style camera. In addition, we offer several inexpensive side-by-side rigs and real-time 3D viewing solutions. Vin Di Bona Productions Continues To Upgrade Avid Workflow by Adding More Archion Synergy Storage to Their Unity MediaNetwork

Burbank, CA – Vin Di Bona Productions, best known as the creator of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” is now in its twenty-second year on ABC Television. Vin Di Bona Productions recently expanded its Avid Unity MediaNetwork™ for the third time with Archion Technologies’ Synergy high-performance storage system. Used by thousands of clients worldwide, Synergy integrates seamlessly with Unity and provides greater scalability and protection without compromising workflow and performance.

Last season, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” moved into High-Definition (HD) production, utilizing the 64 terabytes (TB) of Synergy storage to handle AFV as well as all of the content produced by FishBowl Worldwide Media, its new, next-generation studio founded in January 2010.

“We continue to add Archion’s Synergy storage to accomplish what we want without affecting our workflow,” said Sharon Arnett, Vice President of Post Production, Vin Di Bona Productions and FishBowl Worldwide Media. “Synergy has been a key part of our facility upgrade to HD and continues to be a cost-effective and highly efficient product for us, particularly as we expand into new shows with FishBowl.”

Arnett noted that FishBowl is now in production on a new TV series, “Treasure Chase,” for the Discovery Channel as well as new television shows for HGTV, MTV and truTV. FishBowl is also producing two hit web series, “Ultimate Proposal,” for Yahoo with 1.75 million views for the first webisode, and “Cute Win Fail,” currently in the YouTube Comedy Channel Top 20 with more than 10 million video views.

Key Code Media, an Archion reseller and one of Avid’s largest resellers, made the recommendation to Vin Di Bona Productions to continue to add Archion storage and then guided them through the purchase decision and installation.

“We have a strong relationship with Key Code Media and are also very happy with Archion’s very personal customer support,” Arnett added. “They’ve been great to work with; it’s wonderful to have them both working closely together as a team to satisfy our needs.”

“‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ has been on the air for more than 20 years, and their library of content is constantly increasing in size, especially since they started broadcasting in HD last season,” said Zeke Margolis of Key Code Media. “Archion’s Synergy allows Vin Di Bona Productions to keep up with their growing storage needs by scaling their Unity in the most cost-effective manner possible. We have upgraded their Unity with Archion three times now, and each time the process has been seamless.”

“We are delighted that Vin Di Bona Productions continues to see that adding Synergy storage to their Unity MediaNetwork is their best option for improving their workflow,” said Daniel Stern, Archion’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Customers like these underscore our commitment to providing a compelling alternative to adding Avid storage or going through the expense and time of switching to a completely different shared storage platform.”

The Synergy Line
Archion’s line of RAID storage for Avid’s Unity MediaNetwork and Media Engine platforms has been proven with thousands of clients worldwide. The Synergy XTR™ extends the Synergy’s abilities to a full 800 MB/second and increases its capacity to an amazing 32TBs in a single chassis for Unity Media Engine (5.x). It is also certified for use with Unity MediaNetworks (v4.1x – 4.2x) and is fully compatible with other Archion-certified Unity add-on storage systems.

Synergy storage systems deliver 8-, 16- or 32 TB of storage in a compact three-rack unit design with a 16-drive chassis. With its built-in, highly intelligent hardware RAID controller to manage storage more efficiently, Synergy XTR automatically rebuilds a faulty drive so that the rest of the network is unaffected by the drive failure.

With the award winning and patent-pending Vdisk™ technology, Archion ensures compatibility between versions and that operation is transparent to the Unity system. Synergy XTR RAID controllers manage the disk drives, RAID sets and Vdisks in a more efficient manner, requiring far fewer drives than Avid storage subsystems to deliver higher capacities and resolutions.

White Paper on Hardware RAID Protection in Avid Unity Environment Available
To summarize the benefits of Synergy, Archion has published a whitepaper – “Uncovering the Full Potential of Avid Unity MediaNetworks: Realizing Greater Rewards without the Traditional Risks” – that is available on the Archion website (http://www.archion.com). In addition, a comparison of the two add-on storage chassis — Archion Synergy vs. Avid XT — is also available on the site.

Archion Technologies Announces Instant Rebate Program on Avid Unity MediaNetwork Expansion Storage

– The Only Proven Expansion System, Synergy XTR Now Available at Roughly 25% Cost Per Protected (Usable) Terabyte of Avid Storage –

Burbank, CA (October 27, 2011) – With more than five years of experience providing Avid Unity™ MediaNetwork™ expansion storage to thousands of clients worldwide, including such media enterprises as CBS, Fox Sports, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Turner Broadcast, Archion Technologies announced today an end user rebate on its Synergy XTR storage chassis. The instant $3,000 rebate off of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price is valid on all 16 terabyte (TB) and 32TB Synergy XTRs purchased between November 1, 2011, and December 16, 2011. Customers must register for the instant rebate code on the home page of the Archion website.

The only true option for Avid Unity MediaNetwork users that need to expand their storage capacity now or in the future, Archion’s Synergy XTR — with its patent pending Vdisk™ technology — offers seamless, plug-and-play integration into MediaNetworks storage systems and is certified for versions 4.1x – 5.x.

“We recognize that with tightening budgets, it can be difficult for facilities to acquire the necessary storage capacity to meet the requirements of their growing projects,” said Mark Bianchi, Archion’s Chief Executive Officer. “Incredibly, with this offer, Avid Unity MediaNetwork owners can now save more than 75% per protected TB when adding Synergy storage without any changes to their workflow. Synergy is the only proven option for expanding Unity MediaNetworks, providing strong investment protection.”

“Many Avid customers invested in their Media Engine between 2009 and 2011, often as recently as this past summer,” said Reuben Lima, Chief Operating Officer of Archion. “They deserve the option of expanding their capacity without requiring an expensive, time-consuming forklift upgrade and the risk of media loss.

“Synergy offers simple, quick and seamless integration into Unity, preserving all of its great features, like project sharing and dynamic work spaces,” he continued. “There is nothing new to learn so facilities can keep the proven and widely accepted Avid workflow that promises to be used for years to come by large and small facilities alike.”

Synergy XTR offers simple scalability up to 128TB of usable (RAID 5) protected storage. By eliminating the need to mirror storage or compromise media, Synergy can provide 60% more usable storage than mirroring. If more storage is needed, adding an Archion chassis is quick, easy and cost effective.

White Paper on Hardware RAID Protection in Avid Unity Environment Available
To summarize the benefits of Synergy, Archion has published a whitepaper – Uncovering the Full Potential of Avid Unity MediaNetworks: Realizing Greater Rewards without the Traditional Risks – that is available here on the Archion website.
