LYNX Technik to Debut Four yellobrik® 4-Channel CWDM Multiplexers / Demultiplexers at NAB 2012

LYNX Technik AG, provider of modular interfaces is launching four new passive CWDM multiplexers / demultiplexers at NAB 2012 booth N4433. The four new bricks expand the ever-growing yellobrik line of compact signal processor solutions.

The new CWDM multiplexers / demultiplexers are devices that can accept, combine, transmit and receive up to four fiber optic signals over a single link. Therefore, several signals can share a single fiber optic link. A single unit can perform multiplexer as well as demultiplexer functions.

The four models include the OCM 1841, OCM 1842, OCM 1843 and OCM 1844. These four multiplexers support various Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) wavelengths from 1270 nm to 1610 nm. Each model has four channels that are each assigned to a different wavelength.

These new yellobriks use passive optical technology to multiplex or demultiplex a number of optical carrier signals onto a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths of laser light. This technique also facilitates bidirectional communications over a single strand of fiber.

All four yellobriks feature an optical UPG port which facilitates cascading the four modules together for a total of up to 16 channels. The modules can be used standalone or integrated into a 19” rack using a rack tray option, which is ideal for system installations.

These new 4-channel CWDM multiplexers complement the two 9-channel multiplexers that are already available in the yellobrik range.

“We always aim to offer our customers practical choices and options when it comes to our technology,” comments Winfried Deckelmann CEO of LYNX Technik. “Our current 9-channel multiplexer / demultiplexer devices may be too large for small installations therefore we are now offering a range of smaller 4-channel building blocks.”

The new yellobrik CWDM Multiplexers / DeMultiplexers will be on display for the first time at NAB 2012 booth N4433. They are available for ordering now and will ship at the end of April 2012.

LYNX Technik Brings Affordable HDMI Conversion Bricks to NAB 2012

LYNX Technik AG, provider of modular interfaces will exhibit its range of broadcast quality HDMI conversion yellobriks® at NAB2012, booth N4433.

CHD 1812 – HDMI to SDI Converter + Frame Sync (3G)
This HDMI to SDI converter supports SD/HD/3G-SDI formats, provides 3D support, and includes an integrated Frame Synchronizer. A flexible reference input allows the unit to be cross-locked between formats. With this brick, facilities can convert HDMI to HD or SD-SDI such as sources coming from broadcast video cameras as well as PC and MAC computers.

A key feature of this yellobrik is the built-in frame synchronizer, which eliminates the need to purchase a separate and expensive 3Gbit frame sync unit. It is an ideal solution for any application that requires a fully synchronized SDI input from an external asynchronous HDMI source.

The integrated frame synchronizer solves a common problem in broadcast and video HDMI to SDI (PC and MAC) conversion applications. In a production environment in the USA, a 59.94 Hz frame rate is typical for SDI video applications and often, an HDMI output runs at 60 Hz. The integrated frame synchronizer adjusts for this minor difference, providing users with a perfectly frame synchronized 59.94 Hz SDI output from a 60 Hz HDMI source.

CHD 1802 – HDMI to SDI Converter (3G)
This HDMI to SDI converter carries the same features as the CHD 1812 however does not include an integrated frame synchronizer or external audio output.

CDH 1811 – SDI to HDMI Converter (3G)
This SDI to HDMI converter supports SDI video inputs up to 1080p60 and provides automatic input standard and format detection.

Full Audio Support

The CHD 1812 and CDH 1811 include full audio support and embed audio from the HDMI stream into the SDI outputs with two external analog audio inputs. The audio inputs can be embedded if required. The CHD 1802 supports embedded audio, whereby any audio present in the HDMI stream will be embedded into the corresponding channels on the SDI output.

Fiber Capabilities
The optional single-mode SDI fiber output ensures that the transition to fiber is simple and makes these units ideal for long distance SDI transmission of HD content.

SDI Monitoring and Overlay Modes
The CDH 1811 includes a unique on-screen overlay mode that displays a multitude of additional information about the connected signal including: SDI input format and bit depth, burn-in windows for DVITC,VITC and LTC time code, 16 channel on- screen audio metering, closed caption presence indication and AFD,WSS and VI metadata presence. This overlay feature turns the CDH 1811 SDI to HDMI converter is a fully featured SDI monitoring tool.

The entire yellobrik line will be on display at NAB 2012 including; sync pulse generators, distribution amplifiers, audio embedders / de-embedders, point to point fiber solutions, WDM bi-directional fiber solutions, and CWDM multiplexed fiber solutions.

New Antics to Develop Innovative Content, Social Marketing and E-Commerce Solutions

Hollywood-Based Company to Drive Transactional Video Solutions

(LOS ANGELES) New Antics, a company that joins entertainment industry content creation veterans with social media experts, has officially opened its doors in Hollywood, Calif. The new operation combines a distinguished leadership team; an array of innovative video technologies; targeted boutique video marketing expertise; and video content development and production for “over the top” distribution.

Bruce Long, New Antics co-founder and CEO states, “With the explosion of Internet ready TVs, and the huge potential of interactive content, we believe that the time is right to formally announce the launch of New Antics. The company brings together an array of uniquely talented individuals.

“Over the next few months, we’ll be making subsequent announcements regarding the roll-out of a number of remarkable, innovative solutions to provide video content creators, owners and aggregators with great opportunities to increase their return on investments across the content-creation spectrum – specifically at the intersection of content and emerging advertising opportunities.”

New Antics includes a studio division for content creation, and a technology division providing advertising and ecommerce solutions. The company’s mission reflects a deep understanding that online video is not effectively monetized, and the landscape is fundamentally changing with lines blurring between television, and the social and interactive nature of the Internet. New Antics’ goal is to create a more sustainable model for the video content and advertising industries by looking beyond the impression-based revenue model.

The company’s Solutions division is designed to leverage its experts’ comprehensive knowledge of online video content and social video marketing techniques. Its phase one deployment provides video marketing services based on proprietary technology for maximizing the return for content creators and advertisers. New Antics developed a set of video content solutions that enable monetization through e-commerce rather than existing means of distribution based on “impressions.” The company’s business model is built upon generating greater revenue return per viewer, user engagement, and increased overall video monetization.

The Studios division at New Antics, headed by co-founder and head of production Deborah Del Prete, has already generated several pilots for online distribution focusing on interactive, social and entertainment content for the Web. It includes family, reality, gaming and female-oriented programming. With its own creative staff and production equipment, New Antics will also serve as a third-party production facility for online distributors.

Long has headed several successful companies that live at the convergence of digital solutions and content. He has held leadership roles at many of Hollywood’s most prominent post-production and visual effects companies including Technicolor, Deluxe (which acquired his company, Next Element), Encore Video & Encore VFX, and Iconix Video. Long was also one of the founders of the Arizona-based Bancom Financial Corporation. Long has held senior positions with Columbia/CBS Records, and has managed several recording artists. He was the executive producer of National Lampoon’s Bag Boy. Along with New Antics Chief Technology Officer Daryll Strauss, Long has authored several patents that are employed at the company.

“New Antics is comprised of a stellar group of industry veterans and brilliant, young talents who are focused squarely on the future of digital content creation and distribution,” adds Long.

James Cameron’s Titanic 3D World Premiere Projected by Christie Duo Solution at Royal Albert Hall

In co-operation with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, Inc., Christie® supplied its Christie Duo™ dual-projector solution to bring the bright, vivid scenes of Titanic in 3D to life at its world premiere last week at The Royal Albert Hall.
.
“I’m pleased to have Christie continuing to accompany me on my ‘journey of discovery,’ which will see studios and theater owners providing stirring 3D and, in due course, high frame rate movies, to fully immerse their audiences in experiences that best represent the creative excellence of today’s producers and directors,” said James Cameron.
.
“It truly is an honor for Christie to be working alongside James Cameron on such a prestigious world premiere. This is not only a great testimonial to the trust put in our digital cinema solutions, but also confirms Christie’s role as the world leader and a pioneer in this field. With more than 80 years of history in cinema, Christie continues to push the boundaries with major digital innovations, including 3D deployment and high frame rates,” said Dale Miller, vice-president, Christie EMEA.
.
The multi-party effort includes Fox Filmed Entertainment, Bell Theatres Services, Britannia Row Audio and a full orchestra, with Jon Landau appearing onstage with James Cameron at the premiere.
.
The Christie Duo solution was announced in February 2012 to enable exhibitors to deliver the brightest 2K or 4K movie experiences in 2D or 3D on the largest screens. Coupled with automated features that easily calibrate, align and optimize the images from both Christie Solaria® Series 2K or 4K digital cinema projectors, Christie Duo delivers a completely seamless, premium movie experience to moviegoers worldwide.
.
When combined with world-leading 3D systems, exhibitors can achieve 3D image brightness levels up to twice as high as what can be achieved using the current large-format market leader — at a significant overall cost saving.
.
Historic Relationship Between Lightstorm and Christie Continues
Today’s announcement represents the continuing co-operation between the two firms, epitomized by the two firms signing a milestone, five-year agreement to exchange research, testing, development and technical support on high frame rate (HFR) projection – the industry’s most exciting new technology. The cooperation between these two Hollywood digital cinema powerhouses – officially announced on September 12, 2011 – heralded a significant shift in how movies will be made and shown in theaters.
.
Christie was also selected by Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron to assist him in showcasing the first “mass audience” demonstration of high frame rate (HFR) cinema projection at CinemaCon 2011 in The Colosseum of Caesars Palace on April 4, 2011. Using two Christie projectors, Cameron demonstrated the higher frame-rate delivery necessary for the next generation of 3D films.
.
Cameron used Christie Solaria® Series DLP Cinema® projectors at the Las Vegas demonstration to project 3D content at up to 60 frames per second (FPS). The current industry standard is 24 FPS, which can result in blurred images (“judder”). The Christie CP2230 and others in its family deliver breathtaking 3D images on the largest screens, which, combined with higher frame rates, will speed the evolution of this next generation cinema experience. They can also be upgraded to HFR capabilities with Christie Previsto™ High Frame Rate (HFR) technology.
.
Christie’s Commitment to HFR
The two main goals of Christie’s HFR activities are to help the industry develop the best HFR content and the best delivery system for HFR content. The first goal involves assisting leading-edge filmmakers and post-production companies in perfecting HFR movie creation, so the industry has the most engaging, entertaining content possible. The second goal is to assist exhibitors in showing these 3D HFR movies in all their glory. To these ends, Christie is helping create the standards for 3D HFR movies through formal and informal technology-development alliances with major producers and directors, post production facilities, studios and technology partners. On the exhibitor’s front, Christie provides one stop shopping for all the hardware, software and services that enable exhibitors to deliver a filmmaker’s vision in stunning 3D HFR quality.
