Les Cinémas RGFM (RGFM), a leading Quebec independent movie chain, is now 100 percent digital at its 23 first-run screens, following the installation of Christie® digital projectors. The conversion from film to digital formats support RGFM’s quest to be a leader in technical innovation to deliver the best cinema experience to its guests.

The chain is using Christie CP2000, Christie CP2210 and Christie CP2220 projectors, which were installed over the past two years with no disruption to operations.

A family business spanning three generations, RGFM was founded in 1972 by Marcel Venne, president and Réjane Angers, vice president, in Joliette. It has since grown to serve three regions with full-service, first-run cinemas as well as some drive-in and revival locations. Sons Frédéric and Guillaume grew up in the business and are now partners and associates.

The latest step in projectiondesign®’s global growth strategy with a specific focus on partner support is the appointment of Jens Heymans to the position of Country Manager, Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH).

Internationally renowned artist, architect and designer, Ron Arad, has invited his favourite artists, musicians and friends to create unique works for a 360 degree video projection installation at the Roundhouse, London. Bloomberg are the primary sponsor.

Blitz Communications Ltd has been commissioned to provide the technology to bring Ron’s design concept to fruition. The installation takes the form of a curtain made from 5,600 silicon rods, 8.1m high, creating an 18m diameter 360 degree canvas for film, live performance and audience interaction.

Blitz installed twelve Barco RLM W8 projectors which are mounted on the truss ring above the silicon rod curtain. Each of these projects a portrait image 8.1m high by 5m wide, overlapped to produce a seamless 360 degree display at 13,520 by 1,920 pixels. New investment enhances facility’s colour grading flexibility

In another demonstration of it’s technology’s increasing acceptance in the world of broadcast and movie post production, projectiondesign®’s cineo32 DLP® has been chosen by Berlin post house Pictorian Das Werk.

Moritz Peters and his team recently completed colour grading for the German movie ‘Vorstadtkrokodile 3’ at their Munich studio using the cineo32, and Peters is full of praise for the projector.
