Orad and Quantel Showcase Visual Finesse in Broadcast Production

New integration between Orad graphics and Quantel editing solutions streamline creative broadcast production

Newbury, UK – April 12, 2012Orad and Quantel are pleased to introduce at NAB 2012 a new integrated broadcast graphics and editing workflow featuring the sophisticated Orad Maestro Graphic suite and powerful Quantel Enterprise sQ fast-turnaround broadcast production system. Thanks to Orad’s NewsProducer NLE plug-in, the new integration provides Quantel editors direct access to Orad graphics with an easy-to-use template-driven format that simplifies the creation of complex graphics directly in Quantel edited packages.

“The Orad NewsProducer NLE plug-in gives Quantel editors the ability to easily create sophisticated broadcast graphics for their packages. In a fast paced environment such as news, this type of workflow enhancement allows a station to maintain a consistent look whether the story is edited with graphics in advance or whether the graphics are generated on the fly in realtime,” says Avi Sharir, Orad President and CEO.

“Tight integration between graphics and editing helps our customers get more from their Enterprise sQ systems,” said Steve Owen, Quantel Marketing Director, “The workflow between Orad’s NewsProducer NLE plug-in and Quantel editors is powerful and beautifully simple.”

Leveraging Orad’s NewsProducer NLE plugin, Quantel sQ Edit and Qube users can easily browse and retrieve Orad Maestro graphic templates and bring them directly into the Quantel timeline without the need for specialized equipment or design skills. Maestro graphic template textures, colors, texts, animations and other elements can be modified by Quantel users or linked to external data sources such as databases, Excel spreadsheets, RSS feeds or social media sites for dynamic updating of graphic content. Once the Maestro template, its contents and the in/out points, have been created, a preview is shown immediately on the Quantel timeline. The preview includes both the modified data and animations, overlaid on the selected section of the edited video. Final graphic templates are rendered in full resolution and burned into the video.

Both the preview and final render are handled by Orad RenderEngine for Windows, a service that runs on the same computer as the Quantel editing application. No dedicated hardware is required to perform the render.

Visitors to NAB 2012 can see the new integration on Quantel at booth SL2415.

DALET UNVEILS DALET GALAXY, THE NEXT STEP IN MAM TECHNOLOGY

New Media Asset Management Platform with Business Process Management Workflow Engine Delivers Greater Operational and Business Visibility

Powered with several key new features and applications, including a new graphical user interface and Dalet One Cut fully integrated video editor. Dalet Galaxy will be available later this year.

Levallois-Perret, France – April 11, 2012Dalet Digital Media Systems today unveiled plans for Dalet Galaxy, the latest and most advanced version of the company’s enterprise Media Asset Management (MAM) platform. Born from a decade of experience in building MAM solutions for our broadcast and media customers, Dalet Galaxy includes a high-value, BPMN 2.0-compliant workflow engine that dramatically boosts productivity and agility while also improving operational and business visibility across the media enterprise. The release will offer many additional features including a new modern-looking graphical user interface; Dalet One Cut, a built-in, multitrack video editing framework; more customizable data models; advanced tools for searching and indexing; increased interoperability with NLEs; and support for upcoming industry standards such as AS-02 and FIMS. Dalet Galaxy will become the foundation for the company’s enterprise MAM solutions, which include the purpose-built workgroup packages Dalet Media Life for program prep and archiving, Dalet News Suite for news production and distribution, Dalet Sports Factory for live event and sports production, and Dalet Radio Suite for multiplatform news and music programming. Dalet Galaxy and the portfolio of Dalet solutions can be previewed during NAB 2012 in Las Vegas, April 16-19, 2012, at the Dalet booth (SL4615).

“Dalet Galaxy takes our Dalet Enterprise Edition MAM platform to the next level and will offer many benefits to our customers. With Dalet Galaxy, we’ve incorporated an advanced, industry-standard Business Process Management workflow engine into our core MAM product and tailored it to meet the needs of broadcast and media companies. Dalet Galaxy adds important new dimensions to the MAM, making it the first open and fully integrated platform for managing media and workflows in a convergent world. With the capability to manipulate any type of digital object, including video, audio, text, and graphics, the possibilities are endless,” says Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer, Dalet. “All the operational and business processes are now fully visible and monitored across the enterprise, in real-time. Advanced reporting capabilities provide the means to improve efficiencies and workflows based on actual metrics coming from the system. Customers can control their processes at all levels — horizontally and vertically. This kind of insight and agility will be increasingly important in our fast-changing business environment.”

The new BPM workflow engine in Dalet Galaxy includes tools for designing and modeling workflows, and for orchestrating human tasks as well as automated processes (transcoding, file transfers, etc.). This comes with contextual “To Do” list capability, which adds even greater productivity to the workflow and transparency to the operators. Managers can prioritize and re-assign tasks and make sure deadlines are met.

“This breakthrough technology goes well beyond automation. With BPM, you can see the totality of the workflow, and at the same time, you can identify the internal progress of each workflow step at a granular level — see where assets are in the workflow, check statuses, change priorities and pinpoint bottlenecks. Other business sectors have already benefited greatly from BPM, and now we are bringing the same potential to the broadcast and media industry,” explains Kevin Savina, Director of Product Management, Dalet. “There will also be many new and significant workflow enhancements in Dalet Galaxy, such as the new user interface and Dalet One Cut, our fully integrated multitrack video editor. We’ve also expanded capabilities for video and metadata exchanges between our MAM and leading NLEs; the Dalet Xtend module, which already supported Apple Final Cut Pro, now supports Avid NLEs and will soon support Adobe Premiere. From start to finish and in many different ways, Dalet Galaxy will truly make your business smarter and more efficient.”

Dalet Broadens Integration Options with NLEs

Dalet Xtend is fully integrated with the Dalet MAM platform. Genealogy metadata linking the editor’s material to the original sources can be preserved and content is better referenced throughout.

Dalet Xtend module now provides seamless media and metadata exchanges between Dalet MAM platform and Avid NLEs, Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut Pro

Paris, France – April 9, 2012Dalet Digital Media Systems today announced more flexible and comprehensive integration support with several non-linear editing platforms. The Dalet Xtend module, originally created to facilitate a more fluid workflow between the Dalet Media Asset Management platform and Apple Final Cut Pro® systems, is being expanded to include similar media and metadata exchange capabilities with Avid Media Composer®, Avid NewsCutter®, Adobe® Premiere®, and other NLEs. This interoperability significantly increases productivity and collaboration for editing workgroups. Dalet Xtend for Avid will be demonstrated at NAB 2012 on the Dalet Stand (SL4615). Dalet Xtend for Adobe Premiere will be available later this year.

“Dalet Xtend makes the production workflow much more seamless in every scenario, whether it is for new production, program prep or sports. Designed originally for integrating with Final Cut Pro, Dalet Xtend has gotten excellent feedback from customers and we are pleased to make similar functionality available with other industry standard NLEs,” says Raoul Cospen, Director of Marketing, Dalet. “It relies on open development technology and allows editors working on NLEs to be tightly integrated into the overall production workflow rather than functioning in operational silos. Dalet Xtend also gives customers the flexibility to assemble their preferences for best-of-breed choices for production tools with the assurance that they can change their preferences in the future.”

With Dalet Xtend editors have access to media (videos, EDLS, shot selections, etc) and metadata that are stored in the Dalet content catalogue directly from their NLE workstations. From their Dalet workstations, prep-editors have access to incoming feeds while they are being recorded, and they have access to powerful search tools to find relevant material in the archive. They also have a rich set of prep-editing tools available from the same application that cover many pre-production tasks such as clip selection, storyboarding and even voice over recording. Clips, EDLs and videos are directly accessible from 3rd party NLEs, where more complex editing can be done. The finished work can then be exported back to Dalet as a new title, or saved against a placeholder – all with the appropriate metadata entries as the exchange process is not destructive to the metadata. Crucial information such as descriptive locators and usage rights flow back and forth and are tracked by the Dalet content catalogue thanks to intelligent genealogy.

The Dalet MAM engine expertly controls the metadata and media processes. Genealogy metadata linking the editor’s material to the original sources can be preserved and content is better referenced throughout, making searches of the content catalogue and archives more efficient; content is more readily accessible to everyone who needs it. Dalet Xtend can significantly reduce expensive in-suite production time, streamline the workflow and improve media management.

The New Version of Orad’s PowerWall Shows Unrivaled Resolution and Capabilities

PowerWall leverages Orad’s new HDVG4 video rendering platform
to boost visual display

April 5, 2012 — Debuting at NAB 2012, the new version of Orad PowerWall offers the ability to generate 8 genlocked 1080P (3G) or 16 HD 1080i SDI signals tiled across the video wall according to the required shape and size. Multiple output options allow the HDVG4 to closely match the resolution and aspect ratio of the video wall. Resolutions range from 3840×1080 for the 2×1 video wall configurations, 7680×2160 for 4×2, and a staggering 15360×2160 in the 8×2 arrangement, all from a single HDVG4. Support for high resolutions enables broadcasters to zoom in on content without it becoming pixelated.

The HDVG4 platform can accept up to 8 HD or 8 SD live video insertions, as well as video clips wrapped in industry-standard formats. Videos can be mapped to different graphical elements on the video wall. All video elements become an integral part of the templates and do not need to be overlaid as ‘picture-in-picture’ objects.

Generated from a single box, all graphical elements including tickers, videos, and animated items remain synchronized across the whole video wall, with no tearing visible on any sections of the output.

The PowerWall configurator tool lets users easily adjust the properties of the video signal without having access to the engineering controls on the video wall. Users can adjust the size, position, edges and color balance of the whole wall or individual signals directly from the control PC.

For more about PowerWall, please visit Orad at NAB, booth SL4524.

LYNX Technik Brings Affordable HDMI Conversion Bricks to NAB 2012

LYNX Technik AG, provider of modular interfaces will exhibit its range of broadcast quality HDMI conversion yellobriks® at NAB2012, booth N4433.

CHD 1812 – HDMI to SDI Converter + Frame Sync (3G)
This HDMI to SDI converter supports SD/HD/3G-SDI formats, provides 3D support, and includes an integrated Frame Synchronizer. A flexible reference input allows the unit to be cross-locked between formats. With this brick, facilities can convert HDMI to HD or SD-SDI such as sources coming from broadcast video cameras as well as PC and MAC computers.

A key feature of this yellobrik is the built-in frame synchronizer, which eliminates the need to purchase a separate and expensive 3Gbit frame sync unit. It is an ideal solution for any application that requires a fully synchronized SDI input from an external asynchronous HDMI source.

The integrated frame synchronizer solves a common problem in broadcast and video HDMI to SDI (PC and MAC) conversion applications. In a production environment in the USA, a 59.94 Hz frame rate is typical for SDI video applications and often, an HDMI output runs at 60 Hz. The integrated frame synchronizer adjusts for this minor difference, providing users with a perfectly frame synchronized 59.94 Hz SDI output from a 60 Hz HDMI source.

CHD 1802 – HDMI to SDI Converter (3G)
This HDMI to SDI converter carries the same features as the CHD 1812 however does not include an integrated frame synchronizer or external audio output.

CDH 1811 – SDI to HDMI Converter (3G)
This SDI to HDMI converter supports SDI video inputs up to 1080p60 and provides automatic input standard and format detection.

Full Audio Support

The CHD 1812 and CDH 1811 include full audio support and embed audio from the HDMI stream into the SDI outputs with two external analog audio inputs. The audio inputs can be embedded if required. The CHD 1802 supports embedded audio, whereby any audio present in the HDMI stream will be embedded into the corresponding channels on the SDI output.

Fiber Capabilities
The optional single-mode SDI fiber output ensures that the transition to fiber is simple and makes these units ideal for long distance SDI transmission of HD content.

SDI Monitoring and Overlay Modes
The CDH 1811 includes a unique on-screen overlay mode that displays a multitude of additional information about the connected signal including: SDI input format and bit depth, burn-in windows for DVITC,VITC and LTC time code, 16 channel on- screen audio metering, closed caption presence indication and AFD,WSS and VI metadata presence. This overlay feature turns the CDH 1811 SDI to HDMI converter is a fully featured SDI monitoring tool.

The entire yellobrik line will be on display at NAB 2012 including; sync pulse generators, distribution amplifiers, audio embedders / de-embedders, point to point fiber solutions, WDM bi-directional fiber solutions, and CWDM multiplexed fiber solutions.

For more details, please visit LYNX Technik at NAB 2012, booth N4433, April 16-19, 2012.

TeleCable To Launch Over-The-Top (OTT) Services Built on CodecSys

Local Channels to be Broadcast to Any Screen

London, England – Broadcast International (BCST.OB), and TeleCable jointly announced today at IPTV World Forum 2012 that TeleCable, one of the largest cable and media network companies in Mexico, has selected CodecSys from Broadcast International as the core video management platform to launch its Over-the-Top video programming service.

TeleCable, will launch a package of both live and file-based programs and services to be streamed over the Internet in support of various screens and mobile devices. Initially, the offering will include local channels and content.

CodecSys will stream multiple profiles for multi-device consumption enabling TeleCable to create dynamic bundles for consumers based on content and devices. The decisive factor in selecting CodecSys was the high level of video quality that the service produces at bandwidth rates that create a cost advantage.

Although specific terms were not announced, the agreement is modeled upon the needs of the business. Building an OTT offering requires flexible configuration and dynamic deployment, and only CodecSys, a true software-based platform that delivers cinema quality content, can meet that requirement. The traditional means of purchasing hardware-based products does not adapt or support the new OTT economy.

“We are committed to delivering the highest value content to our customers. Many of them wish to access complimentary programming services over the Internet. We reviewed several alternatives and found that CodecSys was unique in both the design of its product architecture as a software platform and its performance ability. It truly does deliver the highest quality video we’ve experienced at these bitrates. CodecSys is flexible and open, which will allow us to future-proof our encoding and transcoding services. It will change with us as our needs change. We are confident that this is just the first step of a long-lasting relationship with Broadcast International”, said Luis Vielma Ordoñez, COO of TeleCable.

“TeleCable is on the cutting edge of the OTT programming revolution, and very advanced in their technological leadership. This new offering will be the standard-bearer for the rest of the market and we’re honored to be a part of it. The time is upon us where a flexible, software-based platform becomes the distinguishing factor in vendor selection. We will couple this advantage with world-class service and support and stand shoulder to shoulder with TeleCable” said Rod Tiede, CEO, Broadcast International.
