MFX Mastering Format Project at NAB

The MFX Mastering Format Project at NAB will take place in the Summit Room, Renaissance Hotel, 3400 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89169, USA. At NAB 2007, the AAF Association is sponsoring the first public demonstration of the MXF Mastering Format Project. This is a long-term initiative that is being led by Turner Broadcasting System. The aim of this is to bring a fresh approach to MXF and to provide proposed, real-world solutions for key workflows, focusing on creating a single MXF master file from which multiple versions of a program may be created. This rationalization project currently includes two key strands: MXF Mastering Format and the MXF Processor API. The work – which started two years ago – will be demonstrated at the show and will be open to comment and scrutiny. The AAF Association and Turner welcome comment on this technical proposal. more

The VES Awards were given out during the Visual Effects Society‘s (VES) fifth annual gala event at the Kodak Grand Ballroom on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007. Kodak Enhances DIGITAL ICE For Film Scanners

Kodak has introduced an enhanced version of its proprietary DIGITAL ICE Technology. The software is designed to automatically detect and eliminate dust, scratches and other anomalies while film images are being converted to digital files for postproduction. KODAK DIGITAL ICE Technology Version 2.0 more fully integrates with other postproduction applications and offers more output options, making it a state-of-the-art tool for creatives and end users.

KODAK DIGITAL ICE Technology Version 2.0 incorporates an option for providing “untouched” image data along with the output defect matte generated by the software. Snyder notes that the “untouched” information feature can be more efficient for facilities that have invested in other dust- busting workflow technologies. more
