Blackmagic Design today announced that Patrick Inhofer, noted broadcast, cable and film color artist, will be hosting a DaVinci Resolve workshop on October 11, 2011 in New York City.

The workshop will be held free of charge at the Millennium Broadway Hotel. Patrick will provide an introduction to Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve non linear color correction system and provide tips and techniques perfect for Resolve customers working on a variety of projects in different fields.

Leading Hollywood DI house adds more 4K capability and builds ‘an army of talent’ with Quantel

Hollywood-based DI facility Light Iron has purchased a third Quantel Pablo 4K color correction and finishing system together with a Pablo PA workflow assist station. These will be connected via their GenePool to Light Iron’s two other Pablos, creating a truly collaborative and highly efficient digital workflow. The systems are installed at Light Iron’s new 10,000 sq. ft. facility in Hollywood, which includes three DI theaters.

Light Iron CEO Michael Cioni explains, “With 4K content and significant client deliverables, compression of time is more important than compression of files. Having a project tied to a single system, when artists need to simul-task multiple deliverables, is a bottleneck for post production. SPY’s contribution broke new ground in a number of ways, including an unprecedented integration of visual effects and color grading in the conception and design of ghost effects that play an important role in the film.

“Director of photography Mihai Malaimare, Jr. worked simultaneously with SPY’s digital artists and DI colorist Chris Martin to develop the ghost effect that Coppola envisioned,” says Executive Producer Amy Wixson of SPY. “Because they could easily experiment and play off of each other’s work on the fly, a perfectly integrated effect was designed much more efficiently.” more
