Major Chicago Newspaper Uses Canon U.S.A.’s XH A1 HD Camcorder to Capture Multimedia News

Look carefully. The picture that appears on the front page of tomorrow’s Chicago Tribune may not be a “photograph at all. It might be a frame-grab from a high-definition digital video camcorder. Either way, readers will not be able to tell the difference, and there is no reason they should need to. A great, high-quality picture has value because of its content, not because of the camera that captured it. As valuable as that image may be, however, imagine how much more impact it can have when it is not only seen in print but also displayed as part of a motion-video sequence on that newspaper’s Web site.

Stock Footage Saves the Day and Schedule

In spite of all the best planning and scheduling, producers will occasionally find themselves up against an immovable deadline, frantically scrambling for those last few stock clips needed to complete a project.

The program dealt with Alaska’s geology and weather, and how extremes in the Great North affect other places around the world. They had great footage from Alaska, but were coming up short on “the rest of the world”; things like geyser activity in Yellowstone Park, for instance. more
