London, UK based Eclipse Services’ new high quality advanced videoconferencing solution saved the day at a recent conference for multinational engineering and project management consultancy AMEC …. When at the last minute their keynote speaker was told by his doctors not to fly.
Ottawa, Canada based global bio-energy products industry expert Don G Roberts, was due to address the conference staged at Stationers’ Hall (full name The Worshipful Company of Stationers & Newspaper Makers) in central London, when with less than 24 hours’ notice before his scheduled departure, he received the medical advice.
Eclipse, which manages all the venue’s ‘in-house’ AV and technical requirements, thought quickly and stepped in with their new videoconferencing service as the perfect solution.
The Eclipse team supported Roberts and created the means to enable him to be linked from a laptop at his home in Ottawa to the conference in London.
He was able to complete his entire PowerPoint presentation, which was beamed onto a large projection screen in Stationers’ Hall for all delegates to clearly see, together with his image on screen as if he was in the room himself.
Once the presentation was finished he stayed online and in the meeting, able to fully interact with the conference, ask and answer questions and make comments, etc.
The quality of the video call was enhanced thanks to Stationers’ Hall’s recent investment in a 100 Mb data line for videoconferencing and other purposes requiring high speed and clean internet connections … and also because Eclipse has invested in this latest VC technology which is available to all their clients.
It allows multiple sites to be connected together securely, using any video enabled device and run via a fast, clean, stable connection with no latency.
The AMEC event was production managed by Adam Peake, who is the Eclipse AV Site Manager at Stationers’ Hall – one of several high profile venues in and around London managed by Eclipse.
In addition to the VC software, Eclipse supplied mics for each table, webcams, hooked into the house d&b sound system and provided a Panasonic VX5000 projector for the rear projection onto a fast-fold screen.
Robert Wilson from AMEC comments, “Eclipse provided a great service, especially the quick and unflustered response to our keynote crisis, which worked out brilliantly”.
Eclipse’s high quality advanced videoconferencing solution provides secure, reliable, cost-effective and fully supported HD resolution communications taking advantage of exclusive non-public high bandwidth internet services.
Available only through Eclipse Services – part of the Eclipse Presentations Group –clients can benefit from the huge flexibility of fully supported multipoint video meetings with complete confidence.

Real Life Christian Church Expands Its Multi-Site Ministry With Sennheiser Wireless Microphones and In Ear Monitor Systems
Sennheiser’s Evolution Wireless G3 Series Prevails in a High-Volume RF Region, While Providing Scalability and Ease of Operation
Orlando, FL, November 26, 2013: Real Life Christian Church is an Orlando-based ministry providing services to over 5,000 people across five locations, each utilizing Sennheiser microphones and wireless systems. At each of its campuses, the church features live and video teaching as well as upbeat music from a modern worship band, with a volunteer production staff handling most of the AVL duties. The church recently expanded its facilities by adding a new portable campus at the University of Central Florida (UCF) — the second largest university in the United States.
Since the newest campus is ‘portable,’ it requires production staff to quickly set up and strike all the equipment needed to produce a high quality service each week. The system is outfitted with several channels of Sennheiser evolution wireless G3 systems and microphones not only because they are extremely easy to set up, but because they routinely deliver high quality audio and reliability in one of the most congested RF environments in the country.
In addition to using Sennheiser evolution wireless at all of its campuses, Real Life also uses Sennheiser equipment to facilitate Real Life TV on Good Life Broadcasting, a regional broadcast network that reaches millions of people in central Florida. Real Life is also able to extend its reach by hosting church online and a podcast that worshipers can tune into from anywhere in the world.
“We need to make sure that the audio is consistent across each of our environments, whether our services are happening in person or via broadcast,” says Phil Ramsey, media pastor for Real Life. “We use Sennheiser, because any lack in clarity or intelligibility can negatively impact the overall worship experience for our congregation.”
Depending on Sennheiser Evolution Wireless G3:
Real Life saw the potential of portable ministry campuses for its growing congregation early on. Before opening its newest UCF location in August, the church already had two other portable facilities that required set up and strike each week. When it came to expand again, Ramsey didn’t hesitate specifying Sennheiser equipment again since it had already proven its worthiness among the churches four other locations in and around Orlando.
“We really needed microphone system that we can come in, plug in and go,” says Ramsey. “The frequency coordination on the G3 wireless system is so simple, and it is the standard at all of our locations so any of our volunteers can have everything set up and running in a matter of minutes. We’ve never had wireless microphone issues at these portable facilities, and this is huge for us. Everything is rock solid.”
At all of its combined campuses, Real Life utilizes approximately 40 channels of G3 wireless systems, as well as accompanying in ear monitor (IEM) systems. Ramsey says Real Life will soon be integrating several Sennheiser SKM 2000 handheld wireless transmitters into its arsenal, coupled with Neumann KK 204, KK 205 and Sennheiser e965 microphone capsules. “As far as wireless mics are concerned, these capsules deliver the ultimate clarity we are looking for in our style of music, and enable the vocals to sit on top of the mix without a lot of work,” says Ramsey.
Sennheiser Wireless Systems Manager:
Sennheiser’s Wireless Systems Manager (WSM) software enables Real Life to access and monitor its wireless equipment via remote control. The production team is able to view mute status, battery life and other important parameters by utilizing WSM’s advanced software features. “We use WSM because most of our equipment is locked up in a rack and we don’t have immediate access to the hardware,” says Ramsey. “With the WSM software, we have so much control in the palm of our hands and without having to access the physical devices. When you are in a 100,000 square foot facility, that makes all the difference.”
With its eyes on the future and on the further development of its new UCF campus, Real Life has never looked back in its quest for outstanding audio: “For our church, the message is so important,” he says. “We want to glorify Christ in everything that we do, and we believe that audio is one of the primary methods for relaying that message. It doesn’t matter whether someone is tuning in on their cell phone, their iPad, or attending in person. We want the audio to hit the mark.”
Sennheiser is a world-leading manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems. Established in 1945 in Wedemark, Germany, Sennheiser is now a global brand represented in 60 countries around the world with U.S. headquarters in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Sennheiser’s pioneering excellence in technology has rewarded the company with numerous awards and accolades including an Emmy, a Grammy, and the Scientific and Engineering Award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Shelton, Connecticut, November 27, 2013 – The documentary Gennadiy, follows Gennadiy Mokhnenko, whose life cause is to save the children forced to the streets of Mariupol, Ukraine, since the day the Soviet Union fell. The filming challenges are often unexpected. “We had to be ready in a moment’s notice to adapt–whether it be moving locations or adjusting the story,” explains producer/director Danny Yourd. “A lot depends on this, so the equipment always reflects this challenge. We need to be able to carry everything and move – so it was crucial we take into account what we chose to bring with us. That’s why the portability and strength of the Sachtler Ace L and the safety and protection of Petrol bags are ideal for the project.”
Yourd and team chose the RED Epic, Canon C300, various lenses, and a slider to go along with the Sachtler Video 15 SB and Ace L – all packed in Petrol’s Deca Airflow and Digiback DSLR Backpacks, so they could “focus on both cinematography and storytelling yet have the ability to be as nimble as possible,” says Yourd. “Having a small footprint was important because of some of the situations we were expecting to be in. Also, we knew there would be a lot of night filming as well as daytime, utilizing only existing light. So, we wanted to make sure the tools would work in those environments.”
“I was introduced to the Sachtler DV6 SB a long time ago and have been an advocate ever since,” says cinematographer John Pope. “When we were in prep for Gennadiy, I chose the 15 SB for our RED Epic kit because I knew I could count on it for 21 straight days of shooting. We took it everywhere. It got wet, had a small road flare placed on it, got tossed in and out of vehicles, etc. I even brought it with me on covert rooftop missions for establishing shots of Mariupol. The wind was intense on the top of the building but the support was solid as a rock while still being agile.
“The Sachtler Ace was perfect for our C300’s because of its small footprint and light weight,” Pope adds. “We found ourselves in quite a few tight spaces. The Ace’s pan and tilt performance was impressive as well–even after taking a beating from constant location changes.”
Packing equipment safely but still giving the team quick access was crucial to the success of the project. “Both the Petrol backpacks were crucial because we had so many cameras and so many people shooting,” says Yourd. “We were able to configure each bag for a specific camera so that each had everything needed to film. The configuration and the way the bags are constructed made it incredibly easy to pull out, organize and assemble the cameras. We were able to leave the cameras completely built and ready to shoot in each bag.”
“The Petrol Bags were versatile and easy for our crew,” adds Pope. “We were often changing camera configurations multiple times throughout the day. More often than not, our crew would split off into two teams in order to cover what we needed. The backpacks’ diversity and quick reconfiguring options allowed us to split at a moment’s notice, which was crucial to our workflow. Also, their durability was quite impressive. I felt confident that our gear was safe while bouncing around in the back of our suspension-less van.”
Yourd and team are now in post-production on Gennadiy, and plan to submit to the festival circuit in early 2015.

HOBO Audio Captures Powerful Sonic Mood For Intense New HISTORY Documentary “Lee Harvey Oswald: 48 Hours to Live”
NEW YORK, NY – While there is no shortage of media coverage surrounding the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy, few look at it from the perspective of Lee Harvey Oswald: 48 Hours To Live, a two-hour special on HISTORY® featuring audio post/sound design by HOBO Audio.
“This is not a traditional documentary – the film’s dramatic re-creations and cinematography make for very compelling viewing,” says Howard Bowler, President of HOBO. “The challenge for us was to find the best moments to amp up the tension, and conversely, to know when to let other moments breathe. This, like our other work with HISTORY, is very rewarding thanks to the quality of their productions. It’s an honor to be a part of such a finely tuned storytelling process.”
Lee Harvey Oswald: 48 Hours to Live trailer
Directed, produced and written by Anthony Giacchino (based on the book by Steven M Gillon), Lee Harvey Oswald: 48 Hours To Live is a minute-by-minute account of the final two days of Oswald’s life – his attempt to flee, his capture by the police, and the grueling interrogation by the Dallas police detectives prior to being shot by Jack Ruby – a chapter of history that raised more questions than it answered.
The production stands out as the first documentary to tell Oswald’s story by filming inside the Dallas Municipal Building, where the old Dallas Police Department was housed. It’s also the first film to accurately portray Oswald’s interrogation inside Captain Will Fritz’s actual office.
Working with music licensed from the Extreme Music catalog, Chris Stangroom, HOBO’s Senior Audio Engineer, headed the audio mix for the film, which included sound design, audio clean up of archival footage and ADR. For Stangroom, the key to the project was finding ways to match the powerful visuals shot by Giacchino.
“The film is so inspired visually, with moody re-creations of pivotal scenes and dramatic slow-motion footage that heighten the tension,” Stangroom says. “I felt I had to raise my game with the sound.”
For Giacchino, this project represents the fourth consecutive film he’s entrusted to HOBO, and it looks like just the beginning.
“Music and sound is such a big part of any film, and HOBO has great creative sensibilities — they never push it into cheesy, over-the-top ways,” Giacchino says. “I trust them and their audio judgement immensely.”

Princess Cruises, one of the premiere cruise lines in the world, is now supported with Christie® visual display technologies in the company’s new cutting-edge Emergency Response Center in its Santa Clarita headquarters. The center features a huge video display wall composed of 105 Christie® MicroTiles®, measuring 7 feet high by 20 feet wide, and powered by the Christie TVC-1700 video wall processor, which can display up to 64 outputs from a variety of digital sources and devices. Installed under the guidance of AV integrator Pacific Video Products (PVP), Princess Cruises’ video wall monitors up to 10 content feeds which include charts, videos, live television broadcast, and ship models in any size, simultaneously. When activated, the center allows the emergency response team to effectively stay in audio and visual contact with any of its ships, with information that can quickly and easily be integrated, customized, recalled and shared from different locations and sources with high accuracy and reliability.
Princess Cruises is dedicated to providing a relaxing and invigorating escape, with fleets that host over a million passengers each year. Working closely with Pacific Video Products, it developed a PC-based monitoring solution using the Christie TVC-1700, a flexible, built-to-order display wall processor delivering exceptional graphical power and multiple input options with local applications, network-streamed desktops, and direct-connected DVI, RGB and video inputs for control room video walls of any size. The TVC-1700 is managed by the intuitive, multi-tiered, proprietary software Christie MASTERSuite™ which enables instant access to any source of visual information in the control room.
Compact, Reliable, High Resolution – Christie MicroTiles Have It All
Princess Cruises and Pacific Video Products chose Christie MicroTiles after comparing several other options. According to Bob Myers of PVP, there were a number of strict requirements and challenges involved in the project that made MicroTiles the perfect solution. Among them, the system needed to be simple, reliable, and able to fit into a limited space.
“The room is unique from a design stand point, requiring a system that is flexible and compact enough to maximize use of the shallow space. Thanks to the Christie MicroTiles’ compact size and custom pedestals we were also able to add two or three vertical rows of power strips against the wall and install six LCD displays, with a live television feed where the images can be pulled onto the large video wall,” recalled Bob Myers, manager, Presentation Systems, Pacific Video Products. “Since the MicroTiles extend into the room, we used black louvered side panels to provide a clean look and promote airflow to keep the system cool. We also placed openings in the ceiling above the display to provide relief for heat buildup and further promote airflow.”
Myers continued: “We spent many months researching and reviewing different options. When we met with Christie’s Ken Hartling and the company demonstrated their MicroTiles solutions, we knew we had found our solution. The images wowed the audience with how bright and sharp they were, from almost any angle. For Princess Cruises, where the safety of thousands of passengers is paramount during emergency situations no other display wall and video processor solution would do.”
Another factor was the seamless integration of images on the screen. Christie MicroTiles can be joined with only a 1 mm gap between each unit, so one sees a higher number of high resolution images simultaneously without thick borders. “In addition, harnessing the power of the Christie TVC-1700, we are able to see these images ‘anywhere’ on the wall, in any size, something that was impossible to do before with projectors,” noted Andrew Shand, fleet safety manager (Emergency Response), Princess Cruises.

“The deployment of Christie solutions at Princess Cruises provides a highly functional, highly adaptive Emergency Response Center that will meet our customer’s needs today, while also equipping them with the tools they need for solving tomorrow’s emergency situations,” said John Stark, senior director of Control Room Solutions at Christie. “By embracing forward-looking trends and using award-winning Christie MicroTiles’ high-resolution, high brightness digital display screens and the powerful Christie TVC-1700, Princess Cruises has developed a model for digital emergency response centers that is the envy of the industry.”
“The purpose of this room is to support our ships in emergency situations,” said Paul Debnam, vice president, Occupational Safety and Emergency Response, Princess Cruises. “We can stream video and electronic data from other locations and even display information from someone’s laptop onto our video wall. The MicroTiles’ narrow seams and bright, sharp images also allow us to view anything from text to detailed electronic navigation charts in the highest resolution. We have total flexibility with the information coming in and going out using the complete Christie video display wall system.”
