Broadway Systems Welcomes James J. Ackerman as Executive Chairman

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Broadway Systems, the leading provider of advertising management software for cable networks, announced that James J. Ackerman has joined the company as executive chairman, effective Sept. 3.

Ackerman has extensive executive experience leading software and advanced media companies. As president and CEO of Documentary Channel, he led the company into sustainable profitability that resulted in the sale of the company to Participant Media in July 2012. Previously, during his tenure as president and CEO of OpenTV Corp., he led the company through a change in control ownership, the acquisition and integration of two publically traded competitors, and the transition of the company from a pure software vendor to a leading provider of advanced interactive television technologies, applications, and services.

While serving as CEO of British Interactive Broadcasting, Ackerman was responsible for the launch of the world’s first comprehensive interactive television service as part of Sky Digital. He also served as managing director of Sky Ventures, vice president of international business development at A&E Television Networks, vice president of program development for Hearst Entertainment, director of original programming for The Family Channel, and account supervisor at Grey Advertising.

IBC 2013: Vizrt demoing graphics systems exclusively on HP workstations and monitors

At the IBC Show, taking place from September 12-17, 2013, Vizrt is demoing its graphics products using HP high-performance and visualization workstations and monitors exclusively at its booth, Hall 7/Stand A10, in the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam.

“Based on our long, rewarding relationship with HP, all of our product displays and demonstrations at IBC will be running on HP workstations, servers, and monitors,” said Gerhard Lang, Chief Engineering Officer for Vizrt. “HP desktop computing hardware is the proven, trusted solution for our customers’ demanding, mission-critical, real-time media and graphics applications.”

At its booth, Vizrt is using a wide range of HP high-performance computing products including 85 workstations, 30 monitors, and several servers. HP ProLiant DL 380p Gen 8 servers—with Intel XEON E5 2640 2.5 GHz of processing power, 16 GB of RAM, and a Matrox G200 video card, will be used to run the IP-based Viz Engine, Viz Map Server, Viz Content Pilot server, Viz Media Engine video transcoder server, and Viz Media Engine Online live transcoder.

Of the 85 workstations, Vizrt is using a mix of HP Z820 and HP Z420 workstations primarily to run Viz Engine systems, while 20 HP Z420 workstations will run other systems including the Viz Trio live graphics generator, Viz Content Pilot, Viz Weather, Viz Multichannel, and the Viz Artist real-time 3D modeling and animation tool. The HP Z820 desktop workstation has Intel XEON E5-2643 3.3 GHz four-core processing with 8 GB of DDR3 and one terabyte of HDD capacity. The HP Z420 mini-tower has the XEON E5-1600 or E5-2600 series with up to eight-core and 3.6 GHz processing power. The Vizrt exhibit is also using a mix of 30 high-resolution HP LED and LCD Z displays to showcase imagery coming from Vizrt graphics and video systems.

On Saturday, September 14 at 5pm, Vizrt and HP are looking forward to meeting visitors at the Vizrt IBC booth. Norwegian cuisine, including Aquavit (a traditional drink in Norway) and Fenalor (a popular, Norwegian dried meat dish.) will give a warm reception.

Self-Contained Integrated Wireless Camera System With V-Mount Provides Complete Plug And Play Solution

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 14, 2013Integrated Microwave Technologies, LLC (IMT), a Business Unit within the Vitec Group’s Videocom Division and a leader in advanced digital microwave systems serving the broadcast, sports and entertainment markets, presents its RF Central VClip microLite Transmitter (VMLT) at IBC 2013 (Hall 1, Stand D.40).

The VMLT is a new addition to the award-winning RF Central family of microLite HD products, which includes hot shoe camera-top and Anton/Bauer camera-back clamshell docking options. It is a compact wireless camera video transmitter that mounts on the end of the camera between a plate and any V-mount battery, a widely used mounting option for the industry’s leading professional cameras. The V-mount option is integrated on both sides of the VMLT transmitter, allowing the transmitter to be mounted to the camera, then the battery to be mounted to the transmitter. As a result, the battery is used to power up the transmitter and pass power through to the camera.

“The RF Central VClip microLite transmitter provides users with additional mounting options for their transmitters and we are excited to be able to show it to those in attendance at IBC 2013,” says IMT Divisional Chief Executive Stephen Shpock. “With its compact, clamshell design, the VMLT is ideal for a variety of mobile applications, including live sports events, reality TV productions, ENG/OB broadcast and video assist.”

The VMLT comes in licensed and license-free bands in both the 2GHz and 5GHz frequency versions. The 2GHz covers from 1.9- to 2.5GHz and delivers up to 200 mW, while 5GHz covers 5.5- to 6GHz with a robust 100 mW RF output. Depending on the mode and frequency, the transmitter has a range of up to one mile. The range and power can be increased from 200 mW to 1 Watt with an optional Nucomm Range Booster Amplifier (RBA), also introduced at IBC 2013.

The V-mount option is now available on accompanying RF Central microLite VClip dual diversity receiver and RF Central Direct VU HD handheld receiver/monitor.

It offers a simple RJ-45 connection for matrices, user panels and any four-wire audio I/O.

FIM-202D — Ideal for systems with local and secure connections, this two-channel fiber interface extends Clear-Com matrix intercom to two Clear-Com key-panels or two four-wire audio to remote sites (dual fiber required). The FIM-202D features a throw-down design for ease of deployment, high audio bandwidth and very low latency.

Eclipse-HX Matrices — High performance matrix system frames offer up to 64 nodes of connectivity over fiber interface cards. The matrices can also intelligently trunk by means of four-wire, E1, T1, MADI and Ethernet/IP with low latency over LAN and WAN networks. Matrices provide local interfaces for MADI, IP, four-wire, PLs, GPIO, POTS, E1 and T1.

RTW Debuts SurroundControl Series Firmware Update at IBC 2013

Latest Version Simplifies Monitoring While Working in Various Audio Formats

AMSTERDAM, 14 SEPTEMBER, 2013 – RTW, a leading vendor of visual audio meters and monitoring devices for professional broadcast, production, post production and quality control, is pleased to debut at IBC 2013 (Stand 8.D92) a firmware update for its flagship SurroundControl 31900 and 31960 series. In addition to supporting all current EBU/ITU loudness regulations, including ITU 1770-3, the new firmware simplifies the control of the studio monitoring environment when switching over between various audio formats like stereo, 3.1, 5.1 or 7.1, a common occurrence in today’s broadcast environment.

By enabling the user to select independent Trim and Delay values for both analog and digital monitoring outputs, this information can then be stored in up to five Level/Delay Trim Sets in the Audio System menu. When defining the individual input routing for the sub presets, these new Level/Delay Trim Sets can be allocated and tapped into as needed.

The proprietary Surround Sound Analyzer (House display) is a powerful tool for visualizing the interaction of all important parameters of surround signals. The dynamic behavior of all display elements corresponds to the subjective listening impression, enabling you to see the balance of a surround program intuitively and at a glance. Further, the SurroundControl series’ popular Multicorrelator display offers detailed phase information between all channel-pair combinations. Meanwhile, the LFE correlator is an advanced feature for testing for phase problems between any given channel in respect to LFE.
