PBS Installs Nexidia Dialogue Search to Improve Searches of Vast Asset Library

ATLANTA — Sept. 13, 2013 — Nexidia, developer of dialogue and audio analysis products and technologies for optimizing audio and video media, today announced that PBS has installed Nexidia Dialogue Search and will use it with its new media asset management (MAM) system to enhance search capabilities. The PBS Media Operations Center is ingesting years’ worth of archived video into the new MAM. Dialogue Search gives a broad array of PBS users — from editors to library managers to brand managers — an effective way to search its vast video archive in order to repurpose the media.

“We purchased Nexidia Dialogue Search technology to give users an advanced search feature that would be easy to implement, easy to use, and easy to maintain,” said Steve Wynn, director of engineering for the PBS Media Operations Center. “While we continue to roll out our primary MAM platform, it’s incredibly valuable that we can simply aim Dialogue Search at our existing media collections and get immediate results. Dialogue Search provides the ability to search spoken-word content in a practical solution with a familiar Web-based tool.”

Dialogue Search gives PBS a richer, more powerful, and more elegant search utility than the simple, limited metadata search it gets from current associated platforms. Having faster, more efficient access to the content library helps save time and effort during program production, but more importantly, creates new opportunities to present licensed content to viewers via online platforms and member stations.

PBS’ roadmap calls for having full and immediate access to its complete catalog of master, high-resolution media assets via an intuitive, extensible search tool that can be used as easily as consumers now use Google(TM) and YouTube(TM) to find content. Dialogue Search will help PBS to achieve its ultimate goal of being able to find and retrieve content by effectively combining the best of dialogue-based and metadata search within a simple user experience for researchers, editors, producers, and others.

“Having a company of PBS’ size and prominence choose Dialogue Search shows just how compelling the product is,” said Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of Nexidia’s media and entertainment division. “The implementation of a MAM is always a huge undertaking, but it is only the beginning of being able to search through your media. Adding tools like Dialogue Search is the next step in making everything ultimately discoverable, especially when users are dealing with three decades worth of media.”

Nexidia Dialogue Search can be seen at IBC2013 on stand 3.A46. More information about Nexidia Dialogue Search and other Nexidia products is available at www.nexidia.tv.

Nexidia’s Dialogue Search v1.4 Features Adobe Premiere Pro CC Extension, AAF Export Functionality

ATLANTA — Sept. 13, 2013 — Nexidia, developer of dialogue and audio analysis products and technologies for optimizing audio and video media, today announced the latest release of Nexidia Dialogue Search, which features significant improvements and functionality designed to speed time-to-market and reduce production costs for media organizations. Key features of Nexidia Dialogue Search v1.4 include seamless integration with Adobe(R) Premiere(R) Pro — in addition to AAF compatibility and export functionality.

Built on Nexidia’s patented phonetic search technology and a newly designed, rich API, Dialogue Search is a breakthrough application that rapidly searches through massive media libraries to find spoken words or phrases in the audio in just seconds. In addition to dramatically shrinking logging and transcription costs and speeding production, Dialogue Search enables media organizations to maximize the value of any content stored within their archives by opening up previously untapped avenues for monetization and value creation, such as licensing and repurposing content.

“In the short time since we first released Dialogue Search, feedback from our clients has been overwhelmingly positive, and enthusiastic users continue to ask for additional ways to maximize its value,” commented Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of Nexidia’s Media and Entertainment division. “For Dialogue Search v1.4, we focused on the most critical features that directly impact production costs and speed to market — tighter integration and compatibility. Those features, which enable dramatically improved workflows and a more seamless user experience, are highlighted in our new Adobe Premiere Pro extension.”

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO EXTENSION AND API INTEGRATION
The integration with Adobe Premiere Pro enables users to leverage all of Dialogue Search’s functionality directly from Adobe Premiere Pro’s interface without having to leave the application. Simply by adding the Nexidia Dialogue Search extension to their workspaces, users can preview search results in a video player without having to scroll through numerous clips to find a specific sound bite or clip. Additionally, they can now simply drag and drop a clip into a project with the search terms and timecodes automatically displayed as markers on their timelines. The extension is available for Premiere Pro versions 6.0 and higher, including the recently released CC version.

“Nexidia’s newest release of Dialogue Search represents a significant leap forward in terms of user experience and ease of use within the Adobe Premiere Pro environment,” said Simon Williams, director of strategic relations at Adobe. “Adobe Premiere Pro users now have a more powerful tool to fully leverage the capabilities of both of our market-leading products.”

The new Dialogue Search API is not confined to Adobe Premiere Pro. It has also been designed to enable other third-party applications to integrate Dialogue Search seamlessly into existing media asset management (MAM) systems and online video platforms.

AAF COMPATIBILITY AND EXPORT FUNCTIONALITY
Nexidia Dialogue Search v1.4 also features AAF compatibility in addition to the existing Final Cut Pro(R) 7 XML compatibility. Once a file has been identified, users can now export the key words and phrases found as timecoded markers directly to Avid(R) Media Composer(R), Avid Pro Tools(R), and other leading video and audio editing products that support AAF. With the addition of AAF, Dialogue Search now supports export to all major editing applications so that users can quickly find the media they need and immediately start editing on the timeline.

PROXIMITY-BASED SEARCHING AND FASTER INDEXING
To make searches for words or phrases in Dialogue Search even more advanced, v1.4 features proximity-based searching, enabling users to identify words or phrases quickly that appear within a designated time frame. For instance, users can run a search looking only for instances where a specific set of words were spoken within X seconds of each other. Similarly, the newest version also boasts even faster index times — up to 100 times faster than real time per CPU — allowing almost instantaneous searching of new content or quick indexing of existing massive archives.

Nexidia Dialogue Search v1.4 will be available in the third quarter of 2013, with current customers in a support agreement receiving the new update at no additional cost. Nexidia will demonstrate Dialogue Search v1.4 at IBC2013 on stand 3.A46.

New EditShare Ultra Sets the Bar for Affordable Shared Storage

Unveiled at IBC2013, new Ultra shared storage boasts the best of EditShare project and media sharing with outstanding performance

IBC2013, 7.B26

Basingstoke, UK — September 13, 2013 — EditShare® (http:/www.editshare.com/), the technology leader in shared media storage and end-to-end tapeless workflow solutions, unveiled today at IBC2013 (stand 7.B26) the newest addition to its family of shared storage solutions, EditShare Ultra. Setting the bar for affordable shared storage, EditShare’s new Ultra offers a budget-friendly shared storage system with advanced project and media sharing for Avid®, Adobe Premiere Pro®, Apple Final Cut Pro® and Lightworks editors. “Because EditShare Ultra is developed on the same architecture as EditShare XStream, Energy and Field 2, it easily supports uncompressed SD or compressed HD video workflows over Gigabit Ethernet,” says Andy Liebman, CEO and founder, EditShare. “The attractive price point gives facilities on a tight budget a much better storage option than a generic NAS that, in many cases, will neither provide edit-in-place performance nor support a complete media and project sharing workflow. With Ultra, there is no sacrificing with regards to workflow or benefits. EditShare Ultra customers are given the same great project and media sharing capabilities found throughout the EditShare shared storage products, in a configuration that supports both their workflow and budget.”

The new EditShare Ultra is available today through the EditShare global reseller channel starting at less than 6,495.00 Euro. EditShare Ultra feature highlights and benefits include:

Impressive performance and stream counts
Each Ultra shared storage system supports eight streams of ProRes 422; or DNxHD 145; or 24 streams of 25-Mbit video such as DV25 or XDCAM-EX 25.

Outstanding reliability
Ultra is based on the industry’s most reliable enterprise hard disks and uses RAID-5 protection.

Cost-effective, powerful Ethernet connectivity
With Ultra, users can make direct connections between workstations and the two on-board Gigabit Ethernet ports, or combine the bandwidth of the two Ethernet ports and connect them to a low-cost switch for additional client connectivity.

Optimized Linux foundation
EditShare Ultra runs on a rock-solid Linux OS that has been optimized by EditShare specifically for media workflows.

File-level sharing
EditShare Ultra includes EditShare’s NAS capabilities that control locking at the file level, allowing multiple editors to write to the same volume simultaneously – crucial for efficient workflows. In comparison, many SANs use volume-level locking, allowing only one user at a time to write to a volume.

Adobe Premiere Pro®, Avid®, Final Cut Pro®, EDIUS®, and Lightworks Project Sharing
The new Ultra offers Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, Final Cut Pro, EDIUS, and Lightworks Pro project sharing. Project sharing lets editors draw on the same central pool of media and work in the same project simultaneously – freely and safely sharing raw material, bins and sequences.

EditShare Flow Asset Management
Every Ultra system includes a single-seat license to use EditShare Flow media asset management software. With Flow, you can perform file ingest from digital cameras and P2 or XDCAM devices direct from your workstation into Ultra’s storage, or use Flow Browse to log, annotate and search for all your clips.

Simple-to-use Administration Tools
Ultra’s front-end administration tools make it very easy to create user accounts and spaces for media and projects, and to then assign different user rights to the various spaces.

Deletion security controls
EditShare Ultra Administrators can set privileges, such as who can delete files and when. Deleted material can first be moved to “Trash” so that it is possible to “Undo” a deletion if a file is deleted by accident

Dynamically resizable spaces
EditShare Ultra “spaces” are virtual volumes that can be enlarged or shrunk with a few simple clicks, allowing editors to better manage projects and storage needs.

“Our philosophy behind AmberFin UQC is that customers should be able to pick the QC components that work best for their workflow, and schedule and manage them in a single QC environment,” said Bruce Devlin, chief technology officer from AmberFin. “To maintain the strength of our solution, we want to integrate with the best QC tools available. Adding Nexidia QC to our suite of UQC products offers our customers unique automated verification tests that they can’t get from any other vendor.”

Nexidia QC is an automated, file-based QC application that can automatically test critical components of media with proprietary technology — tests that, until now, could only be performed manually. Nexidia QC contains unique tests to verify that closed captions, video description, and audio language are not only present but also correct, which no other media QC application can do. Nexidia QC automates manual processes to reduce operating expenses, automatically identifies and corrects errors to avoid regulatory fines, and enables a higher-quality experience for viewers across all platforms.

Nexidia will demonstrate Nexidia QC at IBC2013 on stand 3.A46. AmberFin will demonstrate the UQC solution on stand 7.H39. More information about Nexidia QC and other Nexidia products is available at www.nexidia.tv.
