Essential Style: The new Sennheiser MOMENTUM On-Ear in black, brown and red brings performance and sleek, understated beauty

Old Lyme, Conn., September 9, 2013Sennheiser goes minimal with new MOMENTUM On-Ear colors. At IFA in Berlin, the audio specialist introduced three new versions of its MOMENTUM On-Ear. Now available in high-gloss black, classic brown and intense red, the new headphones revisit the stylish, minimalist urban look of Sennheiser’s acclaimed MOMENTUM, delivering a combination of pure, clean aesthetics and high performance in a compact on-ear design.

The MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones are the perfect fusion of style and substance; delivering great performance, crafted from the finest materials and featuring a sleek, understated look. The first four MOMENTUM On-Ear versions launched this summer in a burst of color – a celebration in fresh, energizing tones. “With the three new color versions, Sennheiser has re-imagined this essential, cool design in richer, more subtle tones,” said Charles Cha, Product Manager at Sennheiser. “Where the MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones first showed their playful and extroverted character, the new versions are a more discrete revelation of luxury that hints at their superb performance.”

High quality materials, high-end design, high performance
The MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones’ great looks reflect both its clean, minimalist design and the tangibly high quality materials and workmanship. The ear pads and headband have been finished in Alcantara®, a high-tech material produced in Italy. Alcantara’s® unique combination of suppleness, durability and breathable finish makes it highly valued in fashion, interior design, and automotive applications. Here, it provides the listener with the ultimate in comfort, even for long periods of listening enjoyment. The headband of the MOMENTUM On-Ear is made of premium brushed stainless steel. They are the perfect choice for those who demand top quality and don’t want to compromise in any aspect.

Similarly, no compromises have been made on sound quality. Powered by Sennheiser’s proprietary 18-ohm transducers, the MOMENTUM On-Ear serves up a full stereo sound in a frequency range from 16 to 22,000 Hz, delivering incredible clarity and detail with a slight bass emphasis. The closed, on-ear design ensures reliable isolation from external noise for a great listening experience on the move – even in noisy urban environments.

In control, on the go
The MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones feature a single-sided detachable cable with convenient in-line remote and microphone for Apple iDevices, for easy control of music playback and to make and receive calls on the go. The three new variants of the MOMENTUM On-Ear in high-gloss black, classic brown and intense red are available at selected retailers from autumn 2013.

BHV Broadcast to Broaden Appeal of Syntax Up-Converter Series at IBC 2013

IBC Hall 4 Stand 4.C75
Syntax Will be Demonstrated with Closed Captions Capability for the First Time
Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of rate-converters, up-converters and the innovative coax-powering solution “Video Ghost” is to show integration with Microvideo’s technology at IBC2013, giving closed captions capability to BHV’s Syntax up-converter.

Across the globe, there is an ever-growing requirement in the industry for closed captions as part of the retention of metadata through the broadcast chain. Now broadcasters and producers can enjoy the benefit of Syntax’s unrivalled quality HD up-conversion with closed captions. BHV’s award-winning Syntax up-scaler integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 bridge (which in itself provides simultaneous data management of control signals, trans-coding, decoding, bridging and copying) will allow broadcasters to utilise the artefact-free performance of the Syntax in distribution and production chains with massive metadata handling capability.

BHV Broadcast’s managing director, Julian Hiorns, says “We are delighted to announce the technology partnership with Cambridge-based Microvideo. The company really understands the needs of complex metadata workflows and is a great industry association for us.”

BHV’s Syntax and Syntax Essence continue to lead the field in picture quality with some viewers finding it nearly impossible to tell native HD from SD footage upscaled by Syntax. Syntax uses Super-Resolution Bandlet technology held by some to be the natural successor to Motion Compensation.

Last year it was revealed that the key BBC Drama strand “EastEnders “ uses Syntax to overcome the challenges of its aging production backlot.

MPC Engineers Big Change for Kia

MPC recently teamed up with David&Goliath and @radical.media on an ambitious overhaul of Kia’s famous hamsters. Directed by David&Goliath executive creative director Colin Jeffery, MPC handled all VFX work and finishing on the spot, which introduces the all-new 2014 Kia Soul.

Totally Transformed follows the overweight hamsters through a total fitness makeover, from the gym to the pool to the barbershop, mirroring the efforts of a Kia engineer as he perfects each element of the new Soul in a far-off lab. These dual makeover montages collide in the final scene, where the three now-stylish and svelte hamster mascots swagger from their flashy overhauled Kia Soul onto a red carpet.

From pre-previs to the final grade, MPC created the hamsters and seamlessly integrated them into Jeffery’s live-action footage. Each shot was pre-visualized with an emphasis on performance, which helped inform the approach to directing actors on the shoot. Special attention was paid to ensuring realism for the hamsters’ look; MPC artists implemented a custom fur and physically-based shader set up to create photoreal characters in live action environments.

The story required MPC artists to push their set up a step further than previous incarnations of the Hamster series. A sequence involving a hamster diving into and swimming through water proved to be an engaging challenge for the team, requiring heavy duty real world solutions. “We really wanted to bring the personality out of the hamsters so we built advanced facial and body muscle rigs to achieve fluid integration with the live action,” recalled VFX Supervisor and 3D Lead Andy Boyd, “the result needed to be unnoticeable – like you’ve seen a giant hamster in a speedo and goggles before, and we happened to get some nice shots of it!”

The spot will air in cinemas and on TV, with an extended version available on YouTube.

SSL Features Significant Upgrade to C10 HD Compact Broadcast Console with New V4 Software at IBC 2013

New Software Expands Power and Introduces Major New Features for the Industry-leading Mid-scale Console

AMSTERDAM – Solid State Logic will feature the V4 Software for the innovative and industry-leading C10 HD Compact Broadcast Console at IBC 2013 (Hall 8, Stand D.83). Demonstrated for the first time in Europe, the new V4 software release introduces a range of features and options that significantly expand the capability of the C10, representing the company’s commitment to continuous improvement. The C10 turned the industry upside down by delivering exceptional power at an attractive price point, and the legacy continues with this new system upgrade.

“The new V4 Software release introduces a substantial collection of features designed to streamline operational workflow for audio engineers,” says Niall Feldman, Director of New Products at SSL. “The V4 system upgrade reflects both the flexibility of the console and the ability of our engineering team to listen to end users and implement their wish-list into the console feature set. As the C10’s influence continues to grow around the world, we are confident the V4 upgrade will help keep the console in its sector-leading position in the coming years.”

The winning formula for C10 is a unique combination of large console power and features delivered in a compact, affordable and extremely intuitive package. In particular, a range of automated features and simplified controls make the C10 adaptable to environments where users of varying skill levels will operate the console. The V4 Software release includes a range of great new features which significantly expand and enhance the appeal of the product.

Highlights of the V4 upgrade include ‘Function Key Macros,’ a feature which reduces the number of physical actions required to achieve specific tasks by allowing multiple two state console switching functions to be grouped as a Macro and then actioned via soft keys, GPIs and fader functions. Another feature is ‘HyperRoute,’ which makes the already superior SSL routing system even better. The C10 routing system uniquely allows operators to use a versatile source and destination group-based approach with operation from the actual control surface, rather than a separate computer. HyperRoute introduces an additional destination-based routing structure, which has the benefit of displaying destination source assignments without having to re-navigate through the source>destination path. The console’s new ‘Assignable Delay Modules’ make integrating a wider range of external sources into live-to-air feeds quicker and easier. A total of 32 of the 64 available delays can now be routed anywhere, including Aux and Monitor inserts, or external I/O destinations that pick up internal or external sources as inputs. A new ‘Control Surface Screen Saver’ extends the operational life of the console control surface by switching off all of the OLED displays and screens when not in use.

SSL’s ‘Dialogue Automix’ feature has won widespread acclaim as the finest system available for controlling audio levels and maintaining consistent ambience in the fast-paced environment of multi-mic news and panel shows. A new ‘Automix Overide’ function makes the best even better with an option to automatically close the pre fader feed to the Dialogue Automix system when the participants channel fader is closed.

The maximum channel count available for C10 has been increased to 160 channels. The V4 upgrade also introduces optional new ‘Wide Range 2 Band Filters,’ which add high and low pass filters to the channel signal path, expanding the channel EQ to become a full six-band parametric. The new ‘Eyeconix Processing Display’ enables switching of the channel info displays to show EQ, Dynamics and panning graphs instead of Eyeconix images. The Eyeconix system has also been extended to make Eyeconix graphics available for ASG and PGM busses, aux and mix minus masters and DBA busses.

A new ‘Mix Minus Lock’ feature introduces the C10 to a new approach to creating and editing Mix Minus busses. In this new mode, all channels are initially routed to the Mix Minus busses; the in-channel Mix Minus routing buttons can then be used to exclude channels from each bus as required. A new ‘Status Lock Function’ helps protect the Channel ON and/or PGM routing buttons from being pressed accidentally by requiring press and hold operation to edit them.

V4 Software for C10 HD is available now.

Facing inhospitable conditions, intense action scenes and the need to accommodate a massive number of visual effects, Seale and his crew chose to shoot principal photography with ARRI Alexa cameras and capture on Codex Onboard recorders, a workflow that has become popular among filmmakers for its ruggedness, reliability and easy integration with post-production.

Moog Announces Discontinuation of Little Phatty Analog Synthesizer

ASHEVILLE, NC – September 9, 2013Moog Music today announced the discontinuation of the Little Phatty Stage II analog synthesizer. Moog plans to continue building a limited quantity of units at their factory in downtown Asheville while parts and materials last, which is not expected to be more than two months. The Little Phatty was released in 2006 as a tribute to the life and legacy of Moog Music founder and synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog. Following the passing of Dr. Moog, The Little Phatty was the first Moog synthesizer designed by Moog Music’s Chief Engineer, Cyril Lance.

“After Bob’s passing, we faced the immense challenge of creating a new synthesizer that would embody the values that we all treasured in Bob,” Lance recalls. “We worked around the clock to develop an instrument that was founded on his continually forward-looking view of synthesis.”

Over the course of its seven-year production run, the Little Phatty has gone through three incantations including The Tribute, Stage I, and Stage II editions. During that time, the Little Phatty has become one of the best selling professional analog synthesizers in history. Its sonic impact on modern music can be heard on thousands of records, and its signature swooped-back silhouette can be seen in top recording facilities around the world as well as on the stages of internationally touring musical acts such as Rush, Jack White, Queens of The Stone Age, No Doubt, Bernie Worrell and the hit shows American Idol, Nashville and Portlandia.

“The Little Phatty represented a key foundational element in what would become the future of Moog Music,” said Michael Adams, Moog Music President & CEO. “It was the synthesizer that proved to the world that Moog Music would continue to create market leading, forward-thinking synthesizers. The fact that the Little Phatty remains an industry standard instrument for artists and producers to this day, is a testament to its design.”

The Little Phatty Stage II is still available in limited quantities at stocking dealers in standard and custom colors while supplies last. For pricing and availability, please visit www.moogmusic.com/dealers.

Mini Documentary and Promotional Incentives

Moog Music released a mini-doc entitled Moog Lives. Play On.: The Making of the Little Phatty today which can be viewed on the Moog website. In the video, Moog Music President Mike Adams, Chief Engineer Cyril Lance, and Product Development Specialist Steve Dunnington recall how the Little Phatty came to life, the challenges that were faced when Dr. Moog fell ill, and how they were eventually overcome to create this one of a kind instrument.

As a thank you to existing Little Phatty owners, Moog Music is offering a free Little Phatty Gig Bag (an $80 value) with the purchase of the Little Phatty CV Output Modification. The modification adds one gate and four CV outputs to the Little Phatty for those desiring greater expressive flexibility. Moog Music is also offering a free percussion and legacy preset pack for Phatty owners available via down-load on its website.

The Phatty family of synthesizers lives on through the new Sub Phatty analog synthesizer and the Slim Phatty desktop synthesizer. For more information on the Phatty family of analog synthesizers go to: www.moogmusic.com/products/Phattys
