No Compromise Wireless Audio: Sennheiser Digital 9000 System On Tour with Jonas Productions

Specialty Audio Company With Offices Around the World Take Sennheiser’s Most Advanced Wireless Audio System on the Road, to the Delight of Artists, Fans

Old Lyme, Conn. – September 30, 2013 – Jonas Productions, Inc. is a specialty audio and backline services company with a primary focus on backline. The company, which has offices in Indianapolis, Las Vegas and Sydney Australia, recently adopted the groundbreaking Digital 9000 — Sennheiser’s ‘no compromise’ wireless system that was introduced at last year’s IBC after having been under development for more than ten years. Jonas Productions is a longtime user of Sennheiser and handles production Harry Connick, Jr. and many major music festivals in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and Australia.

Once the Digital 9000 was introduced in the fall of last year, owner Ted Jonas was among the first to express interest in the new system: “We were making a large purchase and upgrading some of our Sennheiser G2 wireless units,” he recalls. “We always try to stay on the cutting edge of technology with what’s new, and we knew the Harry Connick Jr. tour was coming up. We were so pleased with the system that we ended up purchas-ing quite a few of the Sennheiser SKM 5200 handheld transmitters as well as the Digital 9000 system itself.”

The Sennheiser Digital 9000 features completely uncompressed audio, artifact free wireless performance and superb dynamics while making frequency coordination nearly effortless. These features have made it a top consideration for many high-end appli-cations in broadcast, on Broadway and of course in live performance environments.

For Jonas Productions, the timing was right to upgrade to a world class, state of the art wireless system. “The product was available and the system itself was really impressive,” says Jonas. There are many considerations that go into such an investment, not the least of which is flexibility and long-term viability. “You want to make sure that the system is both expandable and flexible, and that the expected longevity of the product is there so you can realize your investment,” Jonas explains. “Since the Digital 9000 works in almost any situation, be it film, broadcast or special events, it seemed like the right investment to make — especially with the RF environment getting as busy as it is.”

For Jonas Productions, the ultimate measure of any investment comes back to the cus-tomer. “We want to be able to provide the best possible service,” Jonas says. “Competi-tion is really tough in the marketplace, and if you can offer something that is better than anything else, it gives you an edge. As an audio manufacturer, Sennheiser has always been able to do that.”

The Sennheiser Digital 9000 — Taking Wireless into the Digital World

The Sennheiser Digital 9000 enables users to keep the audio signal entirely within the digital domain, from the microphone all the way to the speaker. On its touring operation with Harry Connick, Jr., Jonas Productions is using the Digital 9000 in conjunction with a Midas digital console. “We use the Midas interface right out of the Digital 9000, and main-tain a digital signal right from the microphone itself all the way to the speaker box,” Jonas explains. “And we can have the digital split to monitors and front of house. As far as I know, that’s something that nobody else can do.”

Since Jonas Productions has operations in different regions of the world, the company also appreciates the modular flexibility of the Digital 9000 as frequency requirements change country to country: “If we are traveling overseas where there are other frequency regulations, we can maintain the same EM 9046 receiver unit – racked and ready to go at any time – and just grab the appropriate transmitters and antenna boosters to comply with local regulations.”

Perhaps the most important feature of the Digital 9000 is its sound, which is noticeable to both fans and artists alike: “When we graduated to the Digital 9000, we didn’t tell Harry that we were going to make a switch,” recalls Jonas. “He walked up, sang a few verses, stopped almost immediately and asked me, ‘What’s up? This sounds really good.’ I told him we upgraded our wireless system and he noticed right off the bat that there was something different.”

Jonas says that the Digital 9000 has also helped simplify the overall touring set up, which translates to time efficiency: “When we find a product that fits nicely into our workflow, like the Digital 9000, we have fewer things to worry about — it’s a cleaner package. As a small example, the rechargeable battery solution on the Digital 9000 saves a huge amount of money, not to mention it is also helping the environment,” he says.

CANAL+ Group Implements an All-SSL Audio Infrastructure for New Studio Complex

“SSL’s solution was efficient and cost-effective”

PARIS – Solid State Logic, the world’s leading manufacturer of advanced tools for audio professionals, is pleased to announce that CANAL+ Group, the leading broadcasting company in France, which provides premium-content and themed networks, has implemented a complete, end-to-end audio infrastructure based entirely on SSL equipment for its new studio complex. This new facility was created to produce content for the CANAL+ free DTTV channels: Itélé, a 24/7 news operation; D8, a general entertainment channel and D17, primarily focused on music with additional documentaries, concerts, special series and movies rounding out the offerings.

The two main studio audio control rooms feature SSL C100 HDS consoles, supported by C10 HD consoles as backup and to provide a uniform interface and audio quality when used as a submixer. Three other studio control rooms feature the C10 HD as the main console with a second C10 HD as backup in two studios, for a total of seven C10 HD consoles throughout the facility. Beyond the consoles, the big story concerns the routing infrastructure based on the SSL MORSE Router and MORSE Stagebox to handle microphone and line I/O via MADI and multiple Alpha-Link LIVE-R MADI/AES/Analogue format converters to connect to the consoles. This is the first instance where a major broadcaster has opted for an all-SSL audio infrastructure.

“We already had a successful standing relationship with SSL when we first took a look at building the new facilities,” said Jean-Marc Delage, project manager/engineer for CANAL+ Group. “Beyond the equipment itself, one of the major costs for building a facility is wiring. We needed to put together five audio control rooms in such a way that all audio assets could address any console. SSL’s solution was efficient and cost-effective, as the entire hookup was through redundant fibre, so we enjoyed minimal wiring to yield maximum flexibility.”

The audio control rooms were configured such that each console only receives its input information via an associated MORSE Router or Stagebox. All external rack-mount equipment and CD players, for example, are fed to the MORSE Stagebox associated with a particular room. In this way wiring was straightforward and easy to accomplish, while delivering a truly powerful and flexible system that could take a mic input from any studio and route it into any console.

CANAL+ Group is the forerunner in the provision of premium-content and themed networks, as well as in the bundling and distribution of pay-TV offerings. Taking into account its international activities in Africa, Poland and Vietnam, the group has a total subscriber base of 14.3 million. It is also a benchmark player in free-to-air television, with its three national channels and an advertising sales division. Through its subsidiary STUDIOCANAL, CANAL+ Group is also a European leader in motion picture production and distribution.

WDCW Presents Pizza in a New Light in Latest Papa Murphy’s TV Campaign

“Jiro Dreams of Sushi” Documentary Filmmaker David Gelb Tapped to Direct

Seattle, WA — Wong, Doody, Crandall, Wiener (WDCW) debuts a new broadcast campaign for Papa Murphy’s International, showcasing pizza in the eyes of award-winning documentary film director David Gelb (Jiro Dreams of Sushi) of production company Nonfiction Unlimited. Papa Murphy’s is the nation’s largest take ‘n’ bake pizza chain with 1380 locations and has been voted top national pizza chain by Zagat for the last three years. WDCW has served as the Papa Murphy’s agency of record since October of 2012.

“What we love most about these new commercials is that they reflect a genuine look into the way we make our pizzas,” provided Diana McAllister, Director of Brand & Communications at Papa Murphy’s. “Our core target is busy moms who don’t want to feed their families fast food and need help serving a scratch-made, home-baked meal everyone will love. WDCW and David did an amazing job showcasing the difference of Papa Murphy’s pizza: Freshness and quality.”

“To demonstrate how different Papa Murphy’s is, our vision was to shoot the pizza making process in a way that’s never been done before, which meant not hiring a ‘commercial food director,’” explained Tracy Wong, Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director. “WDCW art director Adam Deer got in touch with David on a lark because of the way he shot the process of sushi-making in Jiro. David was all in. He approached Papa Murphy’s handmade process with food cinematography that is more art than advertising.”

The first in a four-spot campaign starts airing today in 18 markets across the country showcasing the handmade process, and fresh ingredients that make Papa Murphy’s stand out from other pizza chains.

AroundMe Users Find Exactly What They’re Looking For in the Latest Update for iOS 7

New AroundMe update gets rave reviews after adapting to Apple’s new iOS

Ivrea, Italy – September 30, 2013 – The developers of AroundMe, the most widely used location app of its kind, recently released the latest update to its namesake app, making AroundMe a true iOS 7 app. The brand new operating system from Apple has been making headlines since it was made available to the public just over a week ago, with adoption rates skyrocketing to as much as 35% in one day (source: TechCrunch). Amongst many other major changes, iOS 7 sports a brand new, sleek look, which AroundMe has implemented in this new release. AroundMe developers also took full advantage of a new underlying engine, which enabled them to add further enhancements and capabilities.

Early adopters are already raving about the latest update to the popular location app. “When we first reviewed AroundMe, it was a pretty awesome app,” says Rob Rich, 148Apps Network. “Now, over three years later, it’s still an awesome app. Only now it’s dressed up for iOS 7.”

While AroundMe boasts a new look that compliments iOS 7, it “is a solid update that makes the app ready for iOS 7 without losing functionality,” according to Federico Viticci, MacStories. “AroundMe uses playful animations that aren’t too heavy-handed and that, in my opinion, contribute to making the app simpler and yet pleasant to use. […] AroundMe’s new design feels at home on iOS 7, and the custom touches that Pifferi added to the interface (new icons, animations) help differentiating [sic] the app from the stock iOS 7 design that several developers will follow in the upcoming months.”

Other user testimonials show even more positive reactions to the new AroundMe update. Brian says, “AroundMe [for iOS] 7.0 really simplifies what was already simple. I love the new style and usability. AroundMe holds a special place in my heart.” Laura elaborates, saying, “the simple and clean iOS 7 look makes the app even faster.” Doug comments that the update makes the app “even more straightforward and ergonomic. It’s a good reason to immediately install iOS 7.”

See what the all the hype is about. Download AroundMe 7.0 now through the iTunes store for free.

Feature Highlights of the New AroundMe for iOS 7 App Include:

• Entire app redesigned to follow iOS 7 visual design language
• No need for an external application as AroundMe gives you route directions right from the app along with business info such as phone number and website URL
• Support of Dynamic Type: AroundMe adapts fonts according to iOS settings
• AirDrop, which allows users to share locations with friends and family
• Full accessibility support

About the Developer
The app development team behind AroundMe has more than 20 years of experience in software development. Marco Pifferi founded the wildly popular AroundMe app in 2008. Before that, he was responsible for creating and launching Vector Designer, an award-winning application for the Mac. Before joining the team, Fabrizio Bazzoni worked on optical and magnetic code recognitions and 3D parametric modeling CAD systems since 1996. He is now working on the backend of AroundMe and the design of Reminder+’s beautiful ringtones. Luca Garbolino has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he is still continuing his studies and working towards a master’s degree. Luca is currently working on various UI integrations for Reminder+ and AroundMe. Peter Schlossnikel has been a freelance graphic designer since 2005. He began working on projects from corporate identity to print and screen design to music album artwork. Over the last few years, Peter shifted his focus onto user interface design and contributed to the interface design of both AroundMe and Reminder+.

Get Right to the Point With PhotoPresenter 2 for iOS

Version 2 of Boinx Software’s brand new iOS app now supports iOS 7 and features Laser Pointer and Mouseposé spotlight tools

Puchheim, Germany – September 30, 2013 – PhotoPresenter for iOS has been making its way into the App Store Top 10 in a number of countries since it launched just a week ago – and now, Boinx is adding even more awesome features to the simple yet powerful photo presenting app. PhotoPresenter 2 for iOS now includes two ways to direct audience attention to a specific point in your media: the Laser Pointer tool and a Mouseposé mode. Using the Laser Pointer, users simply tap a finger to the desired area they want to point out on their device, causing a blue “laser pointer” to appear on the big screen in the exact spot. Switch to Mouseposé mode and a spotlight appears, dimming the rest of the photo except for the highlighted area. PhotoPresenter 2 for iOS is also now iOS 7 compatible, offering a sleek and fresh new look for Apple’s brand new operating system. Watch the video:

What’s Everyone Saying About PhotoPresenter for iOS?
“I can see this being very handy for on-the-fly presentations. If you are using AirPlay you want to be in the mirroring mode. Even if you don’t do presentations, the app is great for impromptu photo sharing. You probably won’t want everything on your camera roll on the big screen, so you can pick and choose without anxiety. […] Other than that, PhotoPresenter is a very good idea at a very low price. I’m going to find a lot of uses for it, and you may too. Boinx has a lot of experience at dealing with photo apps such as FotoMagico 4 and TV production software like BoinxTV.”Mel Martin, TUAW.

“PhotoPresenter does a bang-up job of doing exactly what it promises, so how much utility you receive from the app ultimately comes down to whether or not its decidedly narrow feature set seems worth $1.99. We think it is.”J.R. Bookwalter, MacLife.

Clear-Com Tempest Line Extender Wins “STAR” Award from Editors of TV Technology Europe

ALAMEDA, CA, SEPTEMBER 30, 2013 – Clear-Com® is pleased to announce that its Tempest CCT-RT-EX Remote Line Extender is the recipient of a prestigious 2013 STAR Award (Superior Technology Award Recipient), which was presented by the editorial staff of TV Technology Europe magazine at the 2013 IBC convention in Amsterdam.

The STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe’s editor reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then chose 25 winners.

“STAR Awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way,” says Mark Hallinger, Editor of TV Technology Europe. “This year in particular we also looked for smaller incremental improvements in established products, as these improvements generally reflect a manufacturer responding to customer input, a laudable thing. The products selected help advance the industry; some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain, and others because they were just cool products.”

Shown for the first time at IBC, the new Tempest CCT-RT-EX Remote Transceiver Line Extender is used to increase the maximum distance between a Tempest BaseStation and the Remote Antenna Transceiver. The CCT-RT-EX expands the distance of a BaseStation signal to a remote antenna by as much as 914 meters (3,000 feet) with one Line Extender or 609 meters (2,000 feet) per Line Extender if using more than one Line Extender. A total of three Line Extenders can be connected to provide total coverage of up to 2286 meters (7,500 feet). These solutions further enhance the system’s application for users requiring ultra-portable wireless communications in RF-rich environments.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by TV Technology Europe, a prestigious industry publication, for this innovative product for the professional broadcast industry,” says Judy Cheng, Director of Global Marketing, Clear-Com. “The CCT-RT-EX Line Extender provides the extra coverage required, particularly on large productions to ensure that critical directives are heard regardless of location in a venue/facility. As the only intercom-focused product honored in this year’s awards program, Clear-Com is excited to continue to be recognized for its efforts to be at the forefront of providing cutting-edge intercom technology”

“The Film Society wanted the most reliable, powerful, and accurate projection system to anchor the world-renowned Alice Tully Hall, not just for the festival, but for all of its high-profile events year-round,” said Paliotta. “Having used Christie projectors at other iconic Lincoln Center venues, as well as at countless venues throughout New York City, I am confident that Christie projectors are the best choice for the job.”
