Neumann Announces Launch of KH 310 A Three-Way Active Monitor

Old Lyme, Conn. – April 8, 2013: Premium audio brand Neumann announced the launch of its new active studio monitor: the KH 310 A. The KH 310 A is a three-way system that reflects Neumann’s philosophy of achieving the most accurate sound reproduction using state-of-the-art technology and techniques. The KH 310 A will be on display at the Neumann booth at the 2013 NAB Show (booth C3217) and will be shipping next month.

The cutting edge electro-acoustic performance of the KH 310 A is based on newly developed drivers housed in a sealed cabinet — this ensures extremely accurate reproduction over the entire frequency response at surprisingly high reproduction levels. The new KH 310 A, along with the KH 120 monitor Neumann launched in 2010, demonstrates that Neumann is not only identified with first-class microphones but also manufactures sound transducers of equally high quality for the end of the signal chain.

“The KH 120 two-way near-field monitor has set a new standard in its class,” commented Wolfgang Fraissinet, President of Neumann Berlin. “The same uncompromising innovation characterizes Neumann’s new three-way monitor, the KH 310 A.”

The KH 310 A is suited for use as a near-field monitor for mixing and mastering, or as a front loudspeaker in medium-sized surround systems, or as a rear loudspeaker for larger mult-channel systems. It is recommended for demanding applications in the fields of music production, broadcasting, post production and mastering. In combination with the Neumann studio subwoofers, KH 810 and KH 870, which feature a 7.1 High Definition Bass Manager, the KH 310 A monitor provides users with a perfect surround solution. The system is particularly relevant for use in the movie industry, which often requires monitoring solutions for multichannel recordings with 8 or more audio channels.

The KH 310 A’s treble, midrange and bass drivers have all been designed and tested by Neumann. Each driver is carefully optimized using acoustic simulations and undergoes an extensive series of measurements, ensuring an extremely linear reproduction across the entire frequency range. The bass driver provides an accurate response down to 34 Hz. This is achieved using a sealed cabinet design that provides extremely fast transient response. The mid-frequencies, essential for speech and vocals, are reproduced with exceptional precision by a dedicated soft dome midrange driver. Meanwhile, the high frequencies are handled by an alloy fabric dome in an elliptical Mathematically Modeled Dispersion™ waveguide. The result is an authentic sound, rich in detail, that provides a wide sweet spot while minimizing reflections in the vertical plane.

Three powerful class-AB amplifiers and a high-capacity SMPS power supply deliver very high headroom to the system with no audible distortion, and the acoustical controls for bass, low-mid and high frequencies make the KH 310 A a problem solver for acoustically challenging environments such as edit suites and OB vans. The KH 310 A is magnetically shielded and an exstensive range of accessories offers a diverse range of mounting options.

The status of the comprehensive protective system is indicated by a back-lit Neumann logo, which signifies the highest manufacturing quality. Manufacturing tolerances are so small that any two KH 310 A monitors can serve as a matched pair. The KH 310 A cost $2,249.95 each, and will be shipping in early May.

Sonnet Announces Echo Express III-D/Echo Express III-R Three-Slot Thunderbolt-to-PCIe Expansion Chassis

Three-Slot Chassis Available as Desktop Model or 2U Rackmount Model With Optional Kit to Mount Two Mobile Rack Accessories Inside

IRVINE, Calif. — April 8, 2013 — Sonnet today announced the Echo(TM) Express III-D desktop and Echo Express III-R rackmount Thunderbolt(TM)-to-PCI Express(R) Expansion Chassis, the newest members of the company’s award-winning Echo family of Thunderbolt expansion chassis for PCIe(R) cards. Featuring three PCIe slots, a 300W power supply, and 75W auxiliary power connector, both new Thunderbolt-to-PCIe expansion chassis enable the use of a wide variety of high-performance PCI Express cards — originally designed for use in desktop computers — with any Mac(R) computer with a Thunderbolt port. These Sonnet products support every Thunderbolt-compatible PCIe card available.

Both the Echo Express III-D desktop and Echo Express III-R rackmount chassis feature dual Thunderbolt ports to support daisy-chaining of devices, and are designed for users needing the optimum solution for connecting three PCIe cards to their computer. Each new chassis supports up to three full-length, full-height, single-width PCIe 2.0 cards with one x16 and two x8 PCIe slots. The III-D is well-suited for use in most workflows and small enough to fit in many travel bags. The III-R mounts in a 2U tall (3.5 inches) rack space, and its enclosure is just 15.75 inches deep, making it perfect for use in a wide range of popular mobile racks, carts, and rack bags, and even server rooms, as well.

The III-R even saves space for other equipment — utilizing the optional Echo Express III-R Mobile Rack Kit, users can install two 5.25-inch form factor mobile rack devices in the III-R’s enclosure. The mobile rack supports a wide array of devices — ranging from an internal LTO tape drive plus four swappable 2.5-inch SSDs, to an optical drive plus a Sonnet Qio(TM) MR pro universal media reader, to three swappable 3.5-inch hard disk drives — without taking up additional rack space. The Mobile Rack Kit easily installs into the Echo chassis’ enclosure and houses one full-height (3.2 inches) or two half-height (1.6 inches) mobile rack devices up to 8 inches deep. A separate 80W power supply inside the Mobile Rack Kit powers the installed devices while its internal fan works to keep things cool.

Each new Echo chassis integrates a universal 300W power supply and includes a 75W PCIe power connector for cards that require supplementary power, such as the Avid(R) Pro Tools|HDX or the new RED(R) ROCKET-X. Two large, remarkably quiet, temperature-controlled, variable-speed fans and airflow management ensure that hot-running cards and the chassis’ components remain reliably cool. Because the fans speed up and slow down in steps as needed, there is no guesswork in setting a switch position, and no need for tools to change settings. Larger, slower-spinning fans make the Echo Express III-D and III-R the quietest Echo chassis yet. They also conserve energy by powering on and off with the computer to which they are attached.

The Echo Express III-D and Echo Express III-R enable iMac(R), Mac mini, MacBook(R) Air, and MacBook Pro(R) computers equipped with a Thunderbolt port to use Thunderbolt-compatible professional video I/O, audio interface, SAS and SATA HBA, 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10Gb Ethernet, and RAID controller cards. The list of compatible cards is available on Sonnet’s website and is continually expanding as more cards are tested and certified. Like the other models in the Echo family, the Echo Express III-D and Echo Express III-R were designed, engineered, and built by Sonnet in California. The systems are backed with Sonnet’s Pro five-year warranty.

“We designed the Echo Express III-D and Echo Express III-R with pro users’ requests in mind,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “Building upon the design of the Echo Express Pro, adding a third PCIe slot was an obvious improvement, but designing a chassis specifically for use in mobile racks, carts, and rack-bags enabled us to think outside the box. Using the extra space in the rackmount enclosure as a mounting space for mobile rack form factor devices is just one of several features that merge customer input and creative design work.”

The Echo Express III-D (part number ECHO-EXP3F-D) has a suggested retail price of $979. The Echo Express III-R (part number ECHO-EXP3F-R) has a suggested retail price of $1,199. The Echo Express III-R Mobile Rack Kit (part number ECHO-EXP3F-R-MR) has a suggested retail price of $149.95. All are expected to be available in August 2013. More information on the products is available at www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpressiii.html.

High Capacity ioFX Delivers Peak Performance for Professional Computer Graphics Applications including 4K Visual Effects Production, Stereoscopic 3D, Digital Intermediate, Computer Assisted Design and Video Editing

LAS VEGAS — April 7, 2013 [National Association of Broadcasters 2013 trade show] — Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO) today announced that the ioFX workstation acceleration platform is now available with 1.6 TB of capacity, in addition to the original 420 GB form factor. The high capacity ioFX is ideal for video editing, computer assisted design (CAD), 4K and stereoscopic production, as well as digital intermediate (DI) finishing.

“Digital production is undergoing a resolution revolution as production moves to 4K and beyond, while production budgets and deadlines continue to tighten,” said Vincent Brisebois, Fusion-io Director of Visual Computing. “To overcome these opposing forces, the Fusion ioFX can help digital artists efficiently deliver creative work faster, even when faced with the most demanding production requirements. Fusion-io is proud to collaborate with industry leading software developers and hardware companies to deliver breakthrough acceleration for the tools used by professional artists worldwide.”

Based on the Fusion ioMemory platform trusted to accelerate data centers around the world, the 1.6 TB Fusion ioFX significantly improves workstation application performance. The Fusion ioFX removes traditional data storage bottlenecks to allow high performance CPUs and graphics processing units (GPUs) to operate at their full potential, enabling artists to composite, edit, playback and finish digital content with significantly greater speed and efficiency. The ioFX is also ideal for encoding, transcoding, particle simulations and working with large amounts of cached data.

Connecting via PCI Express, the ioFX is also available in a 420 GB capacity to provide artists with choice in selecting the ideal capacity for their applications. To help professionals maximize the capabilities of today’s powerful applications for digital content creation, Fusion-io has worked closely with the industry’s leading entertainment hardware and software providers to optimize the ioFX for visual effects production.

Fusion-io to Integrate ioFX Acceleration Into HP Z Workstations

Industry Leaders Enhance Application Performance in Visual Effects, Digital Content Creation and Computer Assisted Design for Demanding Creative Projects

LAS VEGAS — [National Association of Broadcasters Tradeshow] — Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO) today announced that it is collaborating with global workstation leader HP to integrate the Fusion ioFX into the award-winning HP Z820, Z620 and Z420 Workstations. The integrated solutions will offer ideal development platforms for professional artists in visual effects, upstream exploration of oil and gas, digital content creation (DCC) and computer-aided design (CAD). In addition, professionals interested in adding the Fusion ioFX to their current HP Workstation can purchase the ioFX as a custom integration component.

“I consider HP one of the best engineering companies in the world, so I’m thrilled to see HP and Fusion-io working together to advance workstation computing architectures,” said Steve Wozniak, Fusion-io Chief Scientist. “The Fusion ioFX brings the intelligence of the Fusion-io approach to HP’s incredible workstations, adding even more powerful application performance to the precision engineering HP is known for around the world.”

The Fusion ioFX provides unprecedented application acceleration to leading workstation applications such as those from Adobe, Assimilate, and The Foundry. The new solution will integrate the Fusion ioFX into the powerful HP Z Workstations with Intel Xeon processors. The architecture is designed to deliver an industry-leading platform for digital content creation applications by moving beyond the performance limitations and bottlenecks of traditional systems.

“HP is the workstation industry leader, and our customers demand to be the first to get cutting edge solutions that deliver performance, reliability and innovation,” said Jeff Wood, vice president of product management, Commercial Solutions Business Unit, HP. “Providing the Fusion ioFX in our high-end HP Z Workstations will offer customers improved performance to tackle their most challenging projects faster.”

Tuned for sustained performance in multithreaded applications, the ioFX enables artists to work on 2K, 4K and 5K content interactively, in full resolution, as well as to manipulate stereoscopic content in real time. With powerful throughput to maximize NVIDIA GPU processing, the ioFX will slash application wait times in HP WZ Workstations to accelerate both the hardware and software essential to professional digital content creation.
