SPY, a FotoKem company offering visual effects and post services in the Bay Area, recently contributed hundreds of visual effects shots, the digital intermediate, and 3D conversion services to Francis Ford Coppola’s latest feature film, Twixt, which recently screened at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival. SPY’s contribution broke new ground in a number of ways, including an unprecedented integration of visual effects and color grading in the conception and design of ghost effects that play an important role in the film.

“Director of photography Mihai Malaimare, Jr. worked simultaneously with SPY’s digital artists and DI colorist Chris Martin to develop the ghost effect that Coppola envisioned,” says Executive Producer Amy Wixson of SPY. “Because they could easily experiment and play off of each other’s work on the fly, a perfectly integrated effect was designed much more efficiently.” more

Displaying indestructibility, perseverance, and explosions of epic proportions, the new World of Tanks trailer gives a two minute glimpse at the CG spectacle the game holds. With color correction by Milton Adamou of In a Place Post, the trailer’s vibrant colors add to the rising intensity of the tanks charging through strong blizzards, hot desert sands, and tattered cities.

Rapidly reaching each destination with fervor, the tanks are unafraid to collide with nature or one of their own along the way. The pristine, bright blue of the sky in the desert scenes helps give the game trailer the ultimate realistic feel; one can only imagine how powerful the game will be.
