Autodesk Sponsors 3ds Max Design Hero Competition

Selected Design Will Be the Autodesk 3ds Max Design Software Box Cover and Splash Screen

What: Autodesk, Inc. and CGArchitect.com, with support from BOXX and NVIDIA, have kicked off the first Autodesk 3ds Max Design Hero Competition. Artists and visualization specialists have the opportunity to submit a scene or design created using Autodesk 3ds Max 2012 or Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2012 software, for a chance to have it selected as the 3ds Max Design “hero” image featured on an Autodesk 3ds Max Design software box cover and splash screen. The designer of the selected scene or design will also receive a 3DBOXX 8550 XTREME workstation with one NVIDIA Quadro 5000 GPU (graphics processing unit) and three NVIDIA Tesla GPUs, as well as US$5,000 in cash. Designers of the selected second and third place scenes or designs will receive an NVIDIA Quadro 5000 GPU.

Codex and P+S Technik Announce Collaboration

London, England – Codex Digital, the leading developer of digital media recorders and media management systems for film and television production, today announced a collaboration with P+S Technik to provide a workflow for the new PS-Cam X35 digital camera.
A setup of the PS-Cam X35 and a Codex Onboard Recorder can be seen on the P+S Technik booth at IBC 2011 (Hall 11, Stand E28). A Codex Onboard Recorder will be recording images from the PS-Cam X35 camera. The data packs can be moved over to a Codex Transfer Station for Mac OS X where the unique Codex Virtual File System will generate whatever deliverables are required such as Avid DNX-HD MXF or Apple ProRes for editorial or DPX for VFX and finishing. Codex is providing an entire production platform for the X35, from recording the images produced by the camera, through to dailies delivery and post production. more

The Camera House Acquires Codex Digital Technology to Support File-based Production

LOS ANGELES—California-based The Camera House, a premier provider of camera equipment to the film and television industries, has made a major investment in digital recording and workflow technology from Codex Digital.
The company has initially taken delivery of a Codex production package, which includes a Codex onboard recorder, data packs and a Transfer Station for Mac OS X. It plans to add other Codex technology in coming months. Harman’s Studer Unveils Range of Remote Stageboxes at all Budget and Configuration Levels

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — Responding to customer requests for lower-budget or simpler connectivity options on the range of Studer Vista mixing consoles, Studer has supplemented its highly flexible and expandable D21m remote stagebox system with two new models, both with a more fixed architecture.

Calabash Animation Catches the ‘’Rainbow’’ In New Lucky Charms Spot

CHICAGO, IL — Building on the success of their previous outing for Lucky Charms cereal, which found the iconic character Lucky the Leprechaun rendered in CG for the first time, Calabash Animation has expanded Lucky’s CG universe in ‘’Rainbow,’’ a new ad for the General Mills brand. The ad was created by agency Saatchi & Saatchi, New York.

‘’This was the most ambitious CG project that we’ve done to date, with so many characters involved and so much motion,” Wayne Brejcha, Calabash Creative Director says. “Three kids plus lucky and five avatars – the screen is just jammed with characters.’’
