Four Years of Digital Cinema Support for La Biennale di Venezia

Venice: August 4, 2011 … Qube Cinema has again been selected as the digital cinema technology provider for the Venice Film Festival, August 31 through September 10. La Biennale di Venezia has grown to become one of the world’s premiere film events, providing a showcase both for new cinematic works, and the technologies used to exhibit them. Now in its fourth year with the festival, Qube Cinema is supplying digital cinema servers and technical support.

Under the direction of Marco Mueller, the 68th Venice Film Festival will open this year with the much-anticipated Ides of March, written and directed by George Clooney. The full program will also feature David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, and Carnage, the latest film by Roman Polanski, among many other luminaries of international cinema.

Qube has partnered with system integrator D2 at Venice for each of the past four years, with D2 operating the servers for eight digital screens at the Festival. The Qube XP-D digital cinema server has sold successfully in Italy with over 125 installations already in place. With seamless support for stereoscopic and 2D content in multiple formats including JPEG2000, MPEG-2, VC1 and many others, the Qube XP-D server is a versatile workhorse.

“Along with screening DCPs in seven theatres, Qube Cinema is providing a quality control system, as well as an onscreen test in a dedicated digital cinema theatre,” said Angelo D’alessio, festival technical coordinator. “Qube has knowledgeable people who really understand the requirements of a major festival like this, and they are available 24/7. We couldn’t be more pleased.”

“We have worked hard with the technical team at the Venice Film Festival over the past four years to support them in the transition to digital cinema technologies,” said Nigel Dennis, head of sales and marketing for Qube Cinema in Europe. “The Qube XP-D server is a solid system and it is proving itself once again on the international stage at one of the industry’s high-profile events.”

The Venice Film Festival runs from August 31 through September 10, 2011. Qube Cinema has provided the digital cinema technology for the festival since 2008.
