Charlex Helps COVERGIRL Turn 50

Charlex, coming off of the success of short-film ShapeShifter, has turned out another gem in a fiftieth anniversary spot for COVERGIRL. The :30, starring Queen Latifah, sets the radiant starlet against a gold-curtained backdrop, strutting and dancing about. Close-ups and wide shots of Latifah are interspersed with sparkling shots of COVERGIRL’s LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara, Outlast Lipcolor, and Clean Makeup products.

With instructions from the agency to create a Studio 54-inspired design theme that would mesh with H.S.I. Director Hype Williams’ on-set lighting/video walls and COVERGIRL’s golden 50-year anniversary, Charlex worked closely with all parties over a four-week period to enhance the production and create parts of the product shots. The studio created the LashBlast CG product in Maya, matched lighting and animation to the Outlast and Clean shots, did face and skin retouch on Queen Latifah in Flame, and added light more

Absolute Gets Colorful with Crayola

Mcgarrybowen concepted the campaign. Identity Director Javier Blanco made the spots. That just left Absolute Lead VFX Artist Nathan Kane with the minor task of making the entire galaxy come alive behind the imaginations of a group of 10-year-olds. And did he ever. In a – surprise – colorful four-spot campaign for Crayola, Kane crafted the essential effects to help bring four new products to life.

Kane enhanced multiple shots in Galaxy, which introduces Crayola’s Glow Explosion Sand with a group of awestruck kids creating all manner of star-themed designs in a dark room. Kane added the glowing-galaxy effect, color corrected all the sand shots, and handled rig removal and cleanup where needed. He also composited shots of the talent with light interaction on their faces to create the authentic glow spill onto the kids and contact points.

MudGuardâ„¢ Isolates Microphones from Noise Bleeds and External Overtones

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 11, 2011 – Auralex® Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, will debut its MudGuard™ microphone isolator at the 2011 NAB Show (Booth SL8810). Auralex’s MudGuard is the newest member of the ISO Series family of products designed to help isolate monitors, amps, microphones and stands from hard surfaces and sound reflections.

auralex-mudguard.jpg

“External noise bleed and overtones can turn a voiceover session into a sonic nightmare, which is why Auralex developed the MudGuard, says Eric Smith, founder and president of Auralex Acoustics. “It is easy to use, portable and engineered for maximum effectiveness. Studiofoam® further prevents unwanted sound and other elements from leaking into a recording. It’s a great example of our continual efforts to design quality sound protection for our customers.

The Auralex MudGuard, ideal for voiceover booths, radio applications, ENG trucks and on-set ADR (automated dialog replacement), features the company’s well-regarded Studiofoam sound-absorbing acoustical foam, which helps to reduce excessive room ambience and off-axis sound. It mounts easily to most microphone stands and clips and has an adjustable height. Included hardware allows the microphone to be moved closer to the MudGuard for a more controlled sound. More open sound can be achieved by moving the microphone away from the MudGuard.
