DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND – University of Otago has installed a 64-fader Solid State Logic C200 HD Digital Production Console with two remote Stage Boxes in the historic The Albany Street Studio complex. Built in 1968 by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, The Albany Street Studio was a classic BBC No. 2 studio acoustic design intended for recording a full orchestra. Combines Live-action, 2D, 3D and Compositing for TV/Theatrical Featurette

Method has just completed work on a massive, VFX-filled campaign for Halo: Reach–one of the most anticipated game releases of all time. Microsoft and agencytwofifteen wanted to create an astounding sequence that could be used for this two-minute theatrical featurette, “Deliver Hope,” that could match in look and intensity the feelings that Halo’s millions of devotees receive from playing the game. They went with director Noam Murro of Biscuit Films who then brought the enormous VFX portion of the job to Method and that company’s Sr. Creative Director/VFX Supervisor Dan Glass (Batman Begins, The Matrix sequels), who oversaw the VFX portion of the job from pre-production through to delivery of the featurette and cut-downs for use as TV spots. more

Los Angeles, CA… With a string of highly-regarded recordings to his credit with acts such as Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion, The Melvins, Skunk Anansie, Turbonegro, and Weezer, producer/engineer Joe Barresi certainly knows how to capture the musical energy that defines his and his clients’ success. Part of that sonic magic comes from his choice of microphones and, for one of his recent recording endeavors; he found success with the new R-101 ribbon microphone from Royer Labs.

One of Barresi’s most recent albums is the latest offering from Southern California-based punk rockers Bad Religion. The band’s new CD, The Dissent of Man, on the Epitaph label, was recorded and mixed at Barresi’s own studio, affectionately known as Joe’s House of Compression. During the final testing stage of Royer Labs’ just introduced R-101, Barresi was asked to test and evaluate a pair of the new ribbon mics, which he found to be just the ticket for miking guitar cabinets.
