Prime Focus Software, the R&D arm of Prime Focus, is seeking visual effects companies and individuals to participate in the Beta Testing program for Krakatoa 1.6. The software toolset is Prime Focus’ production-proven volumetric particle rendering, manipulation and management toolkit that creates believable natural phenomena like dust, smoke, silt, ocean surface foam, plasma and even solid objects. With Shanghai expecting 70 million visitors for its historic 2010 World Expo, some of the world’s most prominent companies are staging memorable ads at the 242 displays, representing 192 nations and 50 international organizations. The six-month expo, which opened May 1 and runs until Oct. 31, presented American Airlines with the perfect opportunity to promote its brand in general, and its nonstop service from Beijing and Shanghai to Chicago, in particular. The airline giant, through the creative team at TM Advertising, American’s long-standing agency of record, enlisted Blind to produce a memorable spot that will air in multiple locations, including the huge outdoor screen at the USA Pavilion and as in-flight entertainment on selected international American Airlines flights. more

In the latest move in their ongoing expansion, DUCK has signed French-Swiss directing and art directing duo Ben & Julia. The duo, who run Ben&Julia Studios in Berlin, are multidisciplinary talents specializing in colorful and creative work, including mixing animations, shooting live footage, producing drawings, and manufacturing puppetry for commercials, virals, music videos and animations. more

To kick off summer, Mount Olive Preschool hosted its signature fundraising event: The Jungle Safari Carnival & Silent Auction on Saturday, June 5, 2010. The entire preschool on the corner of Ocean Park Blvd. and 14th Street was transformed into a lively, carnival atmosphere with a Jungle theme. The amazing day of activities included food and fun for the whole family, which attracted almost 1,000 attendees from across the Westside and beyond. more

43% of Kinepolis digital screens will be using MasterImage MI-2100 systems only by year’s end in France, Spain and Switzerland

Today at Cinema Expo 2010 in Amsterdam, 3D technology company MasterImage 3D, LLC announced that Kinepolis Cinema Group has standardized on MasterImage digital 3D cinema systems to bring stereoscopic 3D movies and programming to audiences across Europe. Kinepolis has purchased and installed MasterImage MI-2100 systems covering 35% of their digital screens to date, with a rollout of an additional 8% planned by year’s end for cinemas across Europe. more

Pirate’s Ben Sharony sound designed and mixed a series of recent spots promoting VH1′s Hip Hop Honors the Dirty South, hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Craig Robinson (The Office, Hot Tub Time Machine). Sharony brilliantly brought to life the gritty sounds of the American South with audio from hip hop culture, giving the viewer a preview of what the one-of-a-kind show held in store. more
