Sony Pictures Entertainment Selects FilmLight’s Baselight for New Post Facility

Installation includes three Baselight EIGHT systems for new 4K DI grading theatres
LONDON— FilmLight today announces delivery of seven Baselight colour grading systems to Sony Pictures Entertainment. The systems will be installed at its newly-built digital intermediate facilities on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, California, and connected to the studio’s Digital Backbone. The package includes three Baselight EIGHT systems that have been installed in state-of-the-art 4K digital intermediate grading theatres designed for both standard and 3D stereoscopic feature film work. The installation also includes two Baselight FOURs for use in suites designed primarily for television projects and two Baselight Assists, for pre-grading and other preparatory work. more

GLENDALE, Calif. —Special screenings of the holiday classic Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol will be presented at the Paley Center for Media in New York on December 1st and at American Cinematheque (Aero Theatre) in Los Angeles on December 19th to mark the publication of Darrell Van Citters’ new book on the making of the first animated Christmas special. The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Van Citters and members of the original cast and production team, as well as screening of rare video. Van Citters will also sign copies of his book, Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol: The Making of the First Animated Christmas Special (available here). more

Anonymous Content Director Andrew Douglas stirs up a moving tribute to U.S. troops for the 2009 holiday season. Anthem Christmas Wish, done for Walmart via Martin Agency, Virginia, stars a group of soldiers returning from an exhausting patrol in the torrid desert heat. As the heroes drop their helmets and packs to the ground, a miracle occurs – snowflakes drift down and soon cover the encampment, injecting the troops with an unmitigated joy. The scene then shifts to a little boy, presumably thousands of miles away, leaving the cozy confines of Santa’s workshop. When his mother asks the boy what he wished for, he smiles and says, “Something for Dad.” more

Bent Creates Believable Characters for Diet Dr Pepper’s “Unbelievable” Contest

The characters shine in a hilarious new stop-motion spot for Diet Dr Pepper, part of the soft drink brand’s Unbelievable campaign directed by Bent Image Lab’s Ken Lidster in conjunction with Deutsch/LA.

Contest is a follow-up to the first spot done in the 50s-inspired animation style, which premiered last month. The :15 spot returns to the “I Exist!” support group for mythical characters in the middle of a competition to decide who is the most unbelievable figure in the room: Santa Claus or the guy who delivers a “satisfying diet drink.” As the characters, Sasquatch, Alien, Leprechaun and the Tooth Fairy look on, the Easter Bunny declares a tie between the nervous contestants. more
