HSL supplied all lighting for the Stereophonics incendiary homecoming show at Cardiff Castle, Wales, UK last weekend – including 8 of the new Robe ROBIN 300E Beam moving lights, which made their UK show debut, specified by LD Tim Routledge.
The gig celebrated the band’s forthcoming album “Keep Calm & Carry On”, and Routledge was asked to light this and a warm-up gig at the Electric Ballroom in London following a TV special he designed for them last year at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, for which he won a Welsh BAFTA Award. more

Unique Music Video Aims to Promote Tourism in the Philippines

Los Angeles, CA — (October 8, 2009) — Asia tapped Los Angeles-based motion design & production studio Royale to create the music video for “Take Me to the Philippines,â€? the latest effort by hip-hop artist Apl.de.Ap of The Black Eyed Peas. Created in conjunction with the Philippine Department of Tourism, the video visually underscores Apl’s lyric homage to his homeland — a salient inspiration of the internationally acclaimed artist’s repertoire – and serves as a unique medium as part of a greater campaign to promote tourism in the Philippines. Royale Creative Directors/Partners Brien Holman and Jayson Whitmore helmed the video, with a dynamic mix of live-action and 2D/3D animation. more

Gearhouse South Africa supplied technical equipment – rigging, sound, lighting, video, media, power, backline – for The 31st Annual Loerie Awards. This is the major element of the Loeries Festival, anecdotally considered the coolest, best and most anticipated party weekend for media professionals in the southern hemisphere!
After a hotly contested pitch between Margate, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Sun City, the Loeries Committee this year decided to move the awards to the Mother City and to give the event a high glamour, red carpet feel. Themed ‘Feed your Ego’, the 2009 Loeries poked fun at the sometimes egocentric aspects of the ad industry. more

E/T/C London’s Ross Ashton was invited to create a video projection art work on the amazing Germania statue located in the Niederwald Landscape Park, near Rüdesheim am Rhein, Hesse, Germany, as part of the 2009 Rheinpartie Festival of Light.
Ashton’s carefully crafted mix of colour and precision lighting transformed the imposing 38 metre tall monument, built to commemorate the foundation of the German Empire after the Franco Prussian war in 1883, into a symbol of European peace and harmony. more

He recently started using the AJA HDP2 converter with an HP DreamColor LP2480zx 24-inch display as part of the monitoring solution in his color-grading bay. The HDP2, which has undergone extensive testing in conjunction with the HP DreamColor LP2480zx Display, is a miniature HD-SDI/SDI to DVI-D converter for digital display devices such as LCD and DLP, and will automatically size 4:3 or 16:9 inputs to many DVI-D monitors. more
