New York, NY – Mechanism Digital’s Directive: Make dogs talk! . . . to promote the upcoming 101 Dalmatians Broadway musical. Timeline: Three days.

In order to accomplish the task, Mechanism Digital adapted some unconventional visual effects techniques and simplified a typically complex workflow. In the 1940s, animators hand-painted cartoon mouths and teeth over live footage to make animals speak. In more modern times, filmmakers build wire frame CG models of entire bodies and inserted them with extensive image tracking to create the illusion of talking creatures. Mechanism’s studio found a way to replicate and improve upon this process in a lot less time and at a much lower cost. more

Hollywood, CA – SonicPool, one of Hollywood’s leading post facilities, specializing in sound and picture finishing, edit suite rentals, and full post-production services, has just completed Sound Design and Sound Mix for various NFL projects, including TV show opens and graphics for the NFL Network, NFL Red Zone, NFL Films, NFL.com and various other NFL outlets.

Because football is such a high-impact sport, the lack of sound design accompanying their high-concept graphics was less than ideal for the show opens and interstitials. The NFL Network looked to SonicPool to carry the ball, and SonicPool had no doubts it’d be up for the challenge. “Being big football fans ourselves, it was an honor to contribute to the NFL and their viewers’ experience,” said Patrick Bird and Brett Butler of SonicPool. more

A2M’s First Mature-Rated Game Title Combines Acrobatics, Swordplay and a Dual-Targeting System

Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced that Montreal-based game developer Artificial Mind & Movement (A2M) relied on several Autodesk software applications to facilitate creation of the new game title “WET.” The game’s characters and levels were built using Autodesk Maya and Autodesk MotionBuilder 3D animation software. Autodesk Kynapse middleware was used to implement artificial intelligence (AI) to drive the game’s many nonplayable characters. more
