Thirty-plus years after the release of Mel Brooks’ celluloid comedy “The Producers�, the zany musical has enjoyed a renaissance, thanks in part to a wildly successful Broadway adaptation in 2001 and subsequent film version in 2005. The original show—starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick—ran for over 2500 performances, won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, and also spawned a plethora of international tours and productions. In July, the New Bedford Festival Theatre staged a two-week run of the musical at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, featuring original costumes and sets from the Broadway performance. Jason Choquette, on vacation from his main gig as touring sound engineer for the “Phantom of the Opera�, designed the production’s sound system with a DiGiCo SD8 at its core following a chance meeting with DiGiCo’s U.S. Sales Manager, Matt Larson. more

Recent projects for two high-profile professional golf events fit Scharff Weisberg Lighting to a “tee.”

Working for Momentum Worldwide, Scharff Weisberg first supported the USGA Championship Experience Learning Tent at the US Open 2009 on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale, New York. Later this summer they recreated the Learning Tent at the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota where a second hospitality tent for corporate VIPs was added. Scharff Weisberg (SW) supplied all the lighting and A/V equipment for the venues. more

REEDSBURG, WISCONSIN ― Sound Devices digital recorders recently rode shotgun for “Truth in 24,� an NFL Films production created on behalf of car manufacturer, Audi, which is centered on France’s annual 24-hour car race, 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans). Sound Mixer Kyle Hartigan chronicled Audi’s journey toward winning the trophy again, after taking the grand prize home a total of seven times. Hartigan took Sound Devices 788T and 744T recorders to the track to record effects in both surround and stereo for the project. more

With seamless integration of VFX and live-action footage, Asylum helped to launch Halo 3: ODST, the latest in the Halo series of video games, for the Xbox 360 via T.A.G. SF.

Concieved by T.A.G., the dramatic live-action short shot by MJZ’s Rupert Sanders with VFX courtesy of Asylum portrays the story of Tarkov, an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper). From inspiration as a young man Tarkov evolves through his training and harrowing battle experience with the band of elite soldiers against hostile enemies to become a seasoned and deadly warrior. Expertly weaving sophisticated environment and character enhancements and atmospherics with feature film quality particle explosions, plasma weapons fire, CG drop-pods and futuristic Banshee War Planes, Asylum’s contributions to the piece were both explosive and intimate. more
