Bully Pictures Wraps New Work for Nissin, McDonald’s and CVS

LOS ANGELES- An Asian wise man and a coffee lover with a bean for a brain highlight the latest work from Los Angeles commercial production company Bully Pictures.

Craig Tanimoto has teamed with Santa Monica agency Dentsu America and visual effects house Zoic Studios on a new spot introducing Nissin Chop Suey’s new spokesman, Eddie Wise. The spot is set in an office environment where the pint-sized, animated guru (who works in accounting) shares his wisdom for microwavable noodles with a coworker. Tanimoto’s comedic talent is displayed in the live action actors’ dead pan performances and in Eddie’s diminutive size. The director suggested that making Eddie smaller than originally planned would make his interactions with the live actors appear all the more ludicrous. Animation, including the design of the Eddie Wise character, was handled by Zoic’s team under the direction of Loni Peristere.

Bully Bros. Post creative director Kiki Chansamone contributed to McDonald’s current $100 million launch of its McCafé line with a handsome spot inspired by Chinese rice paper painting. It shows a simple, line drawn human head with a coffee bean representing the two halves of the brain (which are in conflict over when to indulge in a McCafé Mocha). Live action product imagery is integrated with the rice paper animation resulting in distinctive look that is at once classic and contemporary. It is the first of three campaign spots created by Bully Bros. Post and ad agency, IW Group, currently airing for the new product.

Bruce Van Dusen recently worked with creatives from Hill Holliday in creating an interactive quiz for the pharmacy chain CVS and its ReadyFill program. The demonstration, appearing on the CVS website, features a live action pharmacist and female patient who test visitors on their knowledge of managing prescriptions. Van Dusen applied his broad knowledge of natural human performance, mixed media, and web technology to ensure that the live action imagery integrated seamlessly with the web graphics.
