MELBOURNE – Oscar®-nominated cinematographer Don Burgess, ASC will judge the Asia Pacific, Latin America and European entries of the 2008 KODAK Filmschool Competition. Now in its ninth year, the competition is designed to recognize the creativity and skills exhibited by student cinematographers in the collaborative process of visual storytelling. It is open to students and recent film school graduates from Asia Pacific, Latin America, United States and Canada, and more recently the European region. more

MELBOURNE – William A. Fraker, ASC, BSC will head the judging of the 2008 Eastman Scholarships for film school students and the Kodak Faculty Grant awards.

Kodak Technical Training Specialist and cinematographer Randy Tack, and President of the Video Association of Dallas and Artistic Director of the Dallas Video Festival Bart Weiss, representing the University Film and Video Association (UFVA), will join Fraker as jury members. Judging will commence in July. more

Large format projection specialists E/T/C London created spectacular 90 metre wide images and produced the soundtrack for a special large scale outdoor event to launch the new Sunderland Aquatic Centre, the North East’s first Olympic sized swimming pool.

Working closely with show producers Magnetic Events, and soundscape producer Karen Monid, E/T/C’s Ross Ashton interpreted an original storyboard by Magnetic’s Robin Morley to create a 15 minute collage of images based on aquatic themes, interwoven with water-related elements from the City’s past and present, with “the swimmer� at its core. more

New York-based editorial and VFX/motion design shop Version2 announces its partnership with CG animation and VFX shop, Special Branch, forming Special Branch@V2 (SB@V2). The partnership expands V2′s current presence, ability, and scope allowing them to deliver a wider range of services and talent depth to its clients. Special Branch is run by Partners/Artists Fran Roberts and Ed Manning. The SB@V2 deal provides an additional dimension to the growing resources available at the VFX/motion design division of V2.
