The Brief
Sound Lounge’s Cory Melious created the sound design for the 26-minute short film, Smother which was conceived by artist Luis Gispert as part of his El Mundo Es Tuyo (The World is Yours) exhibition. It will be projected continuously in high definition and paired with a series of large-format photographs and several sculptures that mirror the images and emotional responses of the film. more

The Brief:
rhinofx recently integrated CG cars into a re-release of five 2007 Mercedes Benz spots, updating the spots to include 2008 models. The company used a combination of 2D and 3D techniques to replace the live-action footage with CG versions of the cars, while maintaining the integrity and look of the original spots. Commenting on the ramifications, rhinofx’s Partner/Managing Director, Rick Wagonheim notes, “We are certainly in an exciting time for VFX. Though the spots were originally shot without any intention of re-use, our ability to combine today’s technology with the right creative eye represents a powerful opportunity for our clients. This type of modeling and rendering allows for a tremendous amount of savings in both time and resources, without sacrificing anything in terms of quality and realism.” more

Anonymous Content and Team One, Los Angeles collaborate to create three, under 10-minute sponsored short films directed and co-concepted by Anonymous represented director Shyam Madiraju. In partnership with American Express and Ritz-Carlton Films (http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Films/Films.htm), The Delay, Last Night (launching in April), and Heads or Tails (June) were designed to refocus and enhance the image of the famed luxury hotel. The shorts will air on The Ritz. website and hotel televisions. “These projects have been a long time in the making,” commented Madiraju. “Since co-creating the idea with two former Team One creative directors over a year ago, I’ve been actively pushing to get these films made, and I feel the end result was well worth the effort. The Brief:
Crossroads music vid division Merge@Crossroads brings us a taste of summer in Bruce Springsteen’s video, Girls in Their Summer Clothes. The Boss takes us to the beach as he clutches his acoustic guitar amidst the surf and sand. Intercut shots of various women strolling the shore, a stone angel statue, and objects reminiscent of summer are found under the pier and on the dunes as we embrace this warm getaway. more

From opening credit roll to final scene, Los Angeles-based VFX and design company, Asylum created over 700 seamless VFX shots for Walt Disney’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets. more
