XL Video and The Showgirl

XL Video UK supplied full video production and crew to Blink TV for Kylie‘s visually stunning “Showgirl Homecoming” tour.

The live IMAG mix was cut by Ruary MacPhie and the tour‘s video elements were co-ordinated by crew chief Stuart Heaney. It continued XL‘s long standing relationship with the artist.

Added for this final section of the tour were four extra Barco ILite 10 high resolution screens, all flown on a Kinesys automation system supplied by Neg earth, coming in and out at various points throughout the show. The new screens were each constructed from 6 x 6 panels of ILite, measuring approximately 2.7 metres square, They joined a centre portrait format hi-res screen that was on the previous tour, made from 6 x 10 modules of I-10. more

XL Video wins TPi Award

XL Video has won its fourth Total Production International Award (TPi) for ‘Favourite Video Services Company‘ of the Year.

The 2007 TPi Awards – which recognise the industry‘s most innovative and ambitious technical, creative and production achievements – were presented at a star-studded ceremony in west London on 5th February.

The win follows an incredible year for XL Video worldwide, and was collected by members of the XL Video UK team. XL Video also won this coveted award in 2002, 2003 and 2005. more

XL Video Projects in the Shadows

XL Video supplied hardware and crew for the high profile DJ Shadow tour which utilised a massive projected set as the show‘s visual centrepiece.

The ground-breaking collection of atmospheric and provocative images are produced by a US-based team of visual artists led by Ben Coles. They are stored on DVDs and replayed live by Shadow via two Pioneer DVJX1‘s DVD decks, output to screen via an Edirol v 4 mixer.

XL supplied 9 Barco RLM G5i projectors, complete with Barco 0.8:1 wide angle lenses to rear project onto the 24 ft wide set/projection area, which consisted of a top and a bottom screen – the top measuring 6ft high and the bottom 12 ft. The set and the screen surfaces were custom built and sourced via Litestructures. more

Basement Jaxx grooves with XL Video

XL Video UK renewed its acquaintance with dance gurus Basement Jaxx – arguably one of the most exciting live acts in the UK right now – supplying all the video kit for their UK arena tour.

Basement Jaxx’s largest tour to date, amalgamated the talents of their LD Leggy (Jonathan Armstrong) and video director Nick Fry into a dynamic creative team.

The two worked very closely in their respective departments to produce energy pumping show visuals that matched the band’s full-on, action-packed dance attack.

XŁ project manager Des Fallon says “Once again it’s refreshing to see something truly original and unique happening through the close collaboration between video and lighting”. more

VideoDrive for Mountbatten Music Festival

A specially customised version of Radical Lighting‘s VideoDrive software was supplied to the 2007 Mountbatten Music Festival, a 3 night charity spectacular featuring the Massed Bands of Her Majesty‘s Royal Marines. This was staged at London‘s Royal Albert Hall in aid of service charities and Click Cancer Care.

Production manager Karl Westlake first introduced video to the show last year. One of the things it did was replace a large 4 tonne scenery flat of the Marine‘s crest logo with a more flexible projected version. more
