Chimney Pot Continues to Invest in Digital Vision Technology

W*USA Brings High Definition to the Web with Digital Rapids StreamZHD

January 30, 2007 — Markham, Ontario: Digital Rapids’ format-agile StreamZHD media encoding and streaming system was used by Washington, D.C. CBS affiliate W*USA to deliver the President‘s January 23 State of the Union Address live on the Web in high definition. The Web simulcast of the HD pool feed marks the first time a television station has streamed a live event publicly over the Internet in HD.

StreamZHD was used to encode the high definition pool feed of the event into Windows Media Video format (Microsoft‘s implementation of SMPTE VC-1) in real time at 1280×720 frame size and stream it for distribution. Two DRC-Stream encoding boards with Digital Rapids Stream software were also used to provide standard definition and smaller streams for users with lower-bandwidth connections. more

To kick off Oscar Week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present “Shorts!”, a program featuring the ten Academy Award-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories, on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The program, hosted by Academy Award-winning producer-director Taylor Hackford, will feature onstage discussions with the nominated filmmakers (subject to availability). more
