AbelCine New York is holding an all-day workshop called "theC47: Real World Video Podcasting" on May 18th from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Jem Schofield, founder of theC47, will run the session which will focus on both the business and production sides of real world video podcasting. Topics will include understanding your client’s brand and setting up, shooting and distributing video podcasts.

Manhattan Edit Workshop presents Inside the Cutting Room with editor Stephen Rotter (The Right Stuff, Enchanted) who will screen and discuss his body of work with Bobbie O'Steen.

This spring, the Whitney presents the U.S. premiere of The Jugglers, June 24th 2012, David Hockney’s first video installation. Organized by Chrissie Iles, the Whitney’s Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator, the work will be shown in the Museum’s second-floor Kaufman Astoria Studios Film & Video Gallery, from May 23 through September 1, 2013.

A group of twelve figures, clad in black, juggle brightly colored objects in an equally bright room, creating a vibrant composition, the energy of which is echoed by the soundtrack of “Stars & Stripes Forever.” Filmed with eighteen fixed cameras, this lively tableau captures the performers as they move in a procession through the room. Throughout the nine-minute performance, each juggler is fully visible making his or her way across eighteen individual screens.

Bjork's bold and colorful music video for "Mutual Core" will play across 15 of Times Square's giant screens every night in March as part of Times Square's Midnight Moment art series. Says Bjork, "I am very excited about my 'Mutual Core' video being shown at Times Square. Seems like them united screens there are going to have a go at matching the energy of the volcanoes in the video! Good luck Manhattan!"

"Mutual Core" was directed by Andrew Thomas Huang. It will screen every night starting at three minutes to midnight throughout the month of March. (via Nonesuch Records)

The Museum of the Moving Image is running a retrospective of writer/director Harmony Korine's films with screenings of his entire body of work, from Gummo to the upcoming Spring Breakers. Korine will be on-hand in person at the premiere of Spring Breakers taking place on Tuesday, March 12th at 7:00 PM.

This month's Mopictive meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at AbelCine NY. The meeting will feature Andre Finkel talking about the differences between analog and AES digital audio. DP Rick Siegel will present principles and simple lighting tips for interview portraits. Mopictive president and DV/Creative Planet Network contributer Ned Soltz will present an overview of raw workflows.

SMPTE-NY is holding their January meeting on the latest developments in Super35 4K cameras and recording. Representatives from Sony, Canon and FOR-A will be onhand to answer questions about their latest Super35 4K cameras.

James Balog's stunning documentary Chasing Ice is screening at the Film Society of Lincoln Center from today through Thursday, November 22nd. The film chronicles Balog's harrowing journey as he seeks to chronicle melting polar caps for his Extreme Ice Survey. The New York Times called the film, "Full of stunning images…as watchable as it is important.”

AbelCine Expo is a new free event series that will have each session focus on a specific technology. It's premiere event will be Filters for Digital Cinema, taking place on Tuesday, November 20th at AbelCine New York.

AbelCine NY is running an archiving and asset management event on Tuesday, October 30th. The session will serve as an introduction to some of the best products on the market that give you the tools to quickly and easily protect, find, manage, share, publish, re-purpose and monetize media and other digital files, as well as distribute them over the Internet. Representatives from the CatDV, Cache-A, SNS and Nexidia will be here to help you make sense of it all.

The SMPTE is running a session on 4K flat panel video monitors with presentations from Dolby, Panasonic and TVLogic followed by a Q&A with the panel. This event offers unique insights into the thinking and technology of the monitor makers.

This month's Mopictive meeting is all about color correction with a demonstration of ScopeBox, a showcase of Film Light's Baselight for Avid plug-in, and a session by Patrick Inhofer on how to grade a horror film in DaVinci Resolve 9.

Manhattan Edit Workshop will be running a 5-day workshop called The Art of Editing the Documentary from October 29th - November 2nd.

This five-day hands-on workshop explores  techniques of documentary editing - from the creative decisions that make a good story great, to established workflow methods for picture and sound that every editor should know.

AbelCine is running a two-day workshop in New York entitled "Raw Formats, Shooting, Workflow & Post." Instructor and cinematographer Geoff Boyle will lead the discussion on everything from acquisition to on-set media management to post processes. This two-day workshop is for anyone interested in RAW workflow. All RAW camera systems on the market today will be covered, including, but not limited to, Arri ALEXA, Sony F65, RED, and the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Post systems include SpeedGrade, Resolve, RedCineX and more.

AbelCine is running a one-day course on the movie recording functions of the Canon 5D Mark III on August 21st from 1-5 PM. The course will include a thorough review of the camera menus, recording formats, sensor specifics, audio options, exposure control, output options, lens choices, post production and basic color control.

International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 along with IATSE Local 52 and ARRI/CSC present the Lighting Workshop and Digital Symposium: two days of master classes, presentations, panel discussions and show floor demonstrations about the art, craft and technology of lighting; cinematography; and digital workflows on-set and in postproduction. The expo will feature more than 30 camera, lighting, film negative, postproduction and accessory vendors and will focus on education.

The current exhibit Persol Magnificent Obsessions: 30 Stories of Craftmanship on Film, currently on display at the Museum of the Moving Image, includes behind-the-scenes artifacts from such films as Amelie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Pollock and more.
