theC47: Real World Video Podcasting, May 18, AbelCine

AbelCine New York is holding an all-day workshop called "theC47: Real World Video Podcasting" on May 18th from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Jem Schofield, founder of theC47, will run the session which will focus on both the business and production sides of real world video podcasting. Topics will include understanding your client’s brand and setting up, shooting and distributing video podcasts.

The Whitney to Present a New Work by David Hockney

This spring, the Whitney presents the U.S. premiere of The Jugglers, June 24th 2012, David Hockney’s first video installation. Organized by Chrissie Iles, the Whitney’s Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator, the work will be shown in the Museum’s second-floor Kaufman Astoria Studios Film & Video Gallery, from May 23 through September 1, 2013.

A group of twelve figures, clad in black, juggle brightly colored objects in an equally bright room, creating a vibrant composition, the energy of which is echoed by the soundtrack of “Stars & Stripes Forever.” Filmed with eighteen fixed cameras, this lively tableau captures the performers as they move in a procession through the room. Throughout the nine-minute performance, each juggler is fully visible making his or her way across eighteen individual screens.

Bjork Music Video to Screen in Times Square Every Night in March

Bjork's bold and colorful music video for "Mutual Core" will play across 15 of Times Square's giant screens every night in March as part of Times Square's Midnight Moment art series. Says Bjork, "I am very excited about my 'Mutual Core' video being shown at Times Square. Seems like them united screens there are going to have a go at matching the energy of the volcanoes in the video! Good luck Manhattan!"

"Mutual Core" was directed by Andrew Thomas Huang. It will screen every night starting at three minutes to midnight throughout the month of March. (via Nonesuch Records)

Harmony Korine Restrospective, March 8-22, NY

The Museum of the Moving Image is running a retrospective of writer/director Harmony Korine's films with screenings of his entire body of work, from Gummo to the upcoming Spring Breakers. Korine will be on-hand in person at the premiere of Spring Breakers taking place on Tuesday, March 12th at 7:00 PM.

Mopictive March Meeting, March 12, NY

This month's Mopictive meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at AbelCine NY. The meeting will feature Andre Finkel talking about the differences between analog and AES digital audio. DP Rick Siegel will present principles and simple lighting tips for interview portraits. Mopictive president and DV/Creative Planet Network contributer Ned Soltz will present an overview of raw workflows.

Monthly Mopictive Meeting, February 19, NY

Mopictive's February meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 19th from 6:30-8:30 PM at AbelCine New York. The meeting will feature Jay Ignaszweski from AJA Systems and Peter McAuley from Boris FX offering presentations on products from their respective companies. Also, Andrew Finkel will be showing off a few new audio gadgets and techniques.

Tracey Emin's 'I Promise to Love You' On Display on Times Square's Billboards

As part of Times Square's Midnight Moment art initiative, artist Tracey Emin's neon series of messages will be on display throughout the month of February on the world's most famous billboards.

Says Emin, "All my work is about emotion, it's about feeling, it's about subjection, it's about witnessing, it's personal. It isn't cathartic, but it really is a means for me to express myself. It's very old-fashioned and very traditional."

Climate Change Documentary 'Chasing Ice' Screening at Lincoln Center

James Balog's stunning documentary Chasing Ice is screening at the Film Society of Lincoln Center from today through Thursday, November 22nd. The film chronicles Balog's harrowing journey as he seeks to chronicle melting polar caps for his Extreme Ice Survey. The New York Times called the film, "Full of stunning images…as watchable as it is important.”
