Randall Einhorn Talks Shooting 'Wilfred' on DSLRs

Director Randall Einhorn talks to Zacuto about his decision to shoot his FX series Wilfred entirely on DSLRs.

Says Einhorn, "The camera focuses only on Ryan and Wilfred. I wanted to tell what Ryan was doing and thinking and unsettle the viewer with stylized imagery. In order to do this, I used Nikon D800 digital equipment. The camera was outfitted with an old Nikkor 50mm T1.2 still lens. These cameras allowed me to create the shallow depth of field I needed and give the film a surreal, unsettled look."

Scary Monsters: Captured with Nikon DSLRs, 'Broken Night' Conveys Tension and Terror

Director Guillermo Arriaga and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, ASC, collaborated to shoot a “beautiful horror movie” entirely with Nikon D800 DSLR cameras. Arriaga, screenwriter of Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Babel, wrote and directed “Broken Night,” a tense and unsettling short film. On an empty stretch of desert road after a car crash, a mother and her young daughter find that the accident is the least of their troubles.

Matt Hopkins Explores British Identity with a Nikon D800

Filmmaker Matt Hopkins' documentary video essay series England Your England documents the lives of ordinary folks to explore British identity. Hopkins shot most of it with a Nikon D800, telling DSLR News Shooter, "I prefer to work alone with the subjects shooting on DSLR, keeping it low-key and grabbing the moments wherever possible."
