The Mill Adds Graphic Texture to 'Manhunt'

Greg Barker’s documentary Manhunt follows the decade-spanning journey toward the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. The film debuted to positive reviews at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. To augment the story, The Mill L.A. created graphic elements that included layers of research data, Al Qaeda network information and CIA documents. “I read all of the source material and some dense historical books that allowed me to understand the history of the manhunt,” says Mill L.A. creative director and designer Manija Emran.

She adds that her collaboration with “the director, editor, archive researcher and producers of the documentary enabled the titles to be even deeper and more layered, as the graphics needed to emphasize the key moments in the complex story.”

BUGS: A Creepy Crawly Creative Collaboration

The Mill writes: Last week Sonos Studios Los Angeles was over-run with BUGS. I caught up with Mill LA Head of Production, Arielle Davis, on her pet-project and how this collaboration of creative and innovative minds was born.

1. How did you first get involved in BUGS?

We collaborated with Tom Kuntz in 2011 on the 1st instalment of BUGS which was displayed at The Sydney Opera House. In the original iteration, we were exclusively the animation partner.

Behind-the-Scenes of 'Snow White and the Huntsman''s Mirror Man

In this behind-the-scenes video from Snow White and the Huntsman, Will Cohen of The Mill talks about the steps to creating the fluid Mirror Man from the fairy tale retelling. He says, "Mirror Man was a very technically challenging sequence to create. It's one of those visual effects sequences that when you sit down to start, nobody's 100% sure of what it's going to look like. It's this sort of journey of creativity to be done on your way to making it."
