Storytelling the Stillmotion Way: Part 2

Vimeo Video School writes: Hello class! Welcome to part two of our storytelling workshop with Stillmotion. You all get gold stars for perfect attendance.

Today Patrick and his team will be discussing pre-production, and how they use research to develop keywords to guide the production. From conducting pre-interviews, to scouting locations, to developing conflict and story, these keywords will help you develop the four P’s of storytelling — People, Place, Plot, and Purpose — that we discussed in the last segment.

It IS Possible to Create a Unique Wedding Video: Here's How

Stillmotion explains how they created a preternaturally adorable and memorable wedding video that's entertaining for anyone to watch -- even if you're not part of the couple (or the couple's parents).

They explain, "Winnie and Jerry’s wedding feature is a great example of how investing in the couple’s individual story (and not so much the wedding-ness of it all) will make all the difference in their film. After meeting with Winnie and Jerry, hearing their story, and asking them all the right questions, we had all the necessary information to start assembling their perfect wedding film."

Choosing the Canon C100 for a Super Bowl TV Documentary

StillMotion writes up their experiences shooting the Super Bowl television documentary, This Sunday which aired on CBS on February 3rd. They explain about choosing the Canon C100 as their main camera, "Nothing comes before story. On our best days, we don’t waver from the commitment. And that is exactly why we chose the C100 for this series of shoots. For the stories we are telling in Denver with the Gateway high school kids or right here in the heart of New Orleans, this is the ideal camera. This project is a blend of documentary and fully produced filmmaking and the C100 bridges the gap perfectly for what we need in both worlds."

The Canon C100 Wows StillMotion

In a two-part interview, FilmmakerIQ talks to StillMotion's Patrick Moreau about their experience shooting with a pre-production Canon C100.

Says Moreau, "The C100 came along and as we started shooting with it, we were like, 'Wow.' Not only is it as fast and as small as DSLRS, but now we’re actually faster because we have things like built in ND filters. We’re better because we have things like histograms and waveforms and peaking that are allowing us to know exactly what we are doing as opposed to making a best guess with a DSLR."

Stillmotion's Share Sheds Light on a Worthy Cause Via Professionally-Produced Videos

The Share initiative from Stillmotion is a once-a-year volunteer project which will serve to highlight a not-for-profit organization via a professionally produced video. Says Vincent Laforet about it, "[Stillmotion] felt that rather than donating a percentage of profits to a cause, they could better help that cause by donating their greatest asset – which is a penchant for fantastic storytelling. I have to agree that this is an amazing and gracious approach to giving back.
