Short of the Week: Caine's Arcade
In case you haven't already seen this week's gem of a viral video, behold Nirvan Mullick's joyous short documentary "Caine's Arcade." Caine is a 9-year-old boy who built an entire arcade out of cardboard boxes and sundry items from his father's auto shop. Mullick was a random customer at the shop when he became enamored by Caine's ingenuity. There was only one problem: the auto shop was out-of-the-way and Caine had never had any customers besides Mullick.
What's Mullick to do? Organize a flashmob to patronize Caine's Arcade of course (and then make a short documentary out of it). Says Short of the Week, "This is a story of how a child’s ingenuity created hope and smiles at a time when a lagging economy has made things tough for everyone. It’s due to hit a million views on Vimeo in just two days – and it’s easy to see why. Kudos to Nirvan Mullick, who narrates the story with childlike joy, and Juli Crockett, who’s playful backing track is the perfect accompaniment to this delightful film."
Watch it and get ready to smile.
