Lockheed Martin Selects Pesa Routing for USSTRATCOM Upgrade Project

A Pesa Cheetah V5 routing system was chosen for the Command Center Upgrade (CCU) project for the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) headquarters.

Lockheed Martin has selected a Pesa Cheetah V5 routing system to be used in the Command Center Upgrade (CCU) project for the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

The Cheetah system selected is a digital multi-rate routing switcher actively populated with 240 inputs and 224 outputs. The Cheetah V5 system converts incoming, high-resolution RGBHV analog video sources to digital and then distributes them to native RGBHV destinations over both coax and fiber-optic cable. This innovative new architecture allows for an in-frame expansion to 512 inputs and outputs of RGBHV in only 41 rack units.

The system is designed to assure signal quality and save space. Standard RGBHV routing solutions would require five matrix routers and bulky coax cabling, while the Pesa Cheetah solution utilizes just a single matrix router and lightweight fiber-optic cabling, greatly reducing not just the amount of space required for the installation but also the complexity of the entire system. The Cheetah matrix to be installed at USSTRATCOM will utilize both fiber and coax inputs and outputs and accept data rates ranging from 3Mbps to 1.485Gbps.

USSTRATCOM is the command and control center for U.S. strategic forces and controls military space operations, computer network operations, information operations, and strategic warning and intelligence assessments, as well as global strategic planning. The CCU program will modernize the command center at Offutt, renovating the facility itself and upgrading the center's information technology and communications infrastructure, audiovisual equipment, and command and control systems.

The Cheetah is Pesa's flagship router system, offering a full-featured digital routing switcher with the power to handle analog, SDI, HDTV, and non-standard digital signals in the same frame. To accommodate a wide range of requirements, the Cheetah is available in 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, and 512x512 frame sizes and can handle bit rates from 3Mbps up to 1.485Gbps. It has input and output modules available in both coax and fiber. The system is compatible with all existing Pesa control systems and control panels, or it can easily be integrated with third-party control systems.
